You mean 46   509-23148-L0-00   CASE, DUST SEAL DISCONTINUED?

From yamaha-motor.com:

From memory, the dust seals were pretty generic, and I'd be surprised if you couldn't find something from a YZ125 or XT/TT500 that did the job.
The air/oil seals themselves are still available, but DJRacing is your man with the info - he found some when I failed.

No Cykel is the distributer for Link in VIC and SA.  If Link hade the seal I would not have a problem.
So a small PD Valve fit is now opening a can of worms for me  ;D

Its not a standard wiper seal with a metal base . Its a bit like the XR wpers but only 36.

whats the dimensions? 36 X???

could be similar to a PE/KYB wiper? they dont have metal base

also All BALLS sell wiper kits. try their website

http://www.goallballs.com/home.asp hmmm maybe not, looks like they only have seals. im sure they used to have wipers

yes many RM's up to 78 and all PE's up to 81 except for 1982 PE 250/400 which still used 36

i will find a PE one and take a photo  (tomorrow)and you can see if its the right sort of thing

I found a wiper and as soon as I grabbed it I thought this looks right and measured the OD to be 48. I then looked underneath and read KYB 36 - 46.8 and then thought the 46.8 was the OD. I fitted the wiper inside the retaining ring that holds it in the fork slider and yeah when fitted it compresses the OD into just under 47 so its not quite the 48 you need. But I was thinking it might still work if it’s just that little bit undersize? It’s only about 0.65 undersize on each side. I was a little disappointed as when the seal is free and not in the housing it measures 48 but they classify it as a 46.7 OD as that’s what it measures when it’s slightly compressed to a firm fit in the fork slider.

But surely there is plenty of guys restoring these YZ forks and must be using something??

Walter, if you still have the old fork seals, remove the little tension spring and use the old seals as dust seals/wipes. Yes I know this isnt exactly what you want but it will get you going until you can find a pair of dust seals/wipes, and at least the old seals will be hidden under the fork boots.

LWC , I think that is the one , as it only has to wipe the leg and not seal on the outside . When its pressed in it should swell anyway to 48 . They are the brown ones. Where do get them ?

Thanks DJ , thats a good bush trick , but you agree , as a customer you would not pay for a fix like that ?
Thanks for your help  anyway.

the ones i got are from 80-81 PE 175/250/400 and the 82 250 and 400 and probably the same as on the enduro DR 250/500 as well.

yes they are brown and have a total height of 16mm

i would get them from Kessners in Adelaide. just ask for fork wiper seals for a 1980 PE 250

or i would get them online at www.alpha-sports.com

something is interesting here as i was told the 78/79 PE wipers are different to the 1980 onwards ones and the 78/79 ones are also NLA as well. i wonder if they are the same as the yamaha ones that are NLA? are the yamaha forks also KYB? A few guys with the 78/79 PE had to use the later PE wipers as they couldnt get the correct ones for their bikes.
