Title: XR/XL500R or XL250R tank wanted
Post by: gerpster on October 07, 2008, 10:40:23 pm
Had a crazy idea to stick an original Paris Dakar 250 tank on my mint 1983 XL250R. After looking hard the world over I found a used one in Japan that would cost a few hundred to get here....bummer   :(
So plan B is to get another tank and paint it up like a Dakar tank.
So am looking for one of the following early 80s triangular tanks (non safety seat type)...From what I can find the following tanks may work....

XR500R 1981 or 1982
XL500R 1982
XL250R 1982 or 1983 (obviously)

I think the 250 tank is 9 litres and the 500 tank 12 litres (???)...so a 500 tank may be the preferred go.

Attached is a piccy of the original tank that is staying original as it is toooo nice to touch. Bike only has 17,000 kms on it too... ;)

If anyone can help with a tank please PM.

Cheers
Greg.

here is a Acerbis tank that may work

check it out!!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/RESERVOIR-ACERBIS-HONDA-XLR-250-350-600-ADAPTABLE-TANK_W0QQitemZ300272055634QQihZ020QQcategoryZ121298QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

300272055634

should sand/polish up ok

description translates roughly to.....

Reservoir Acerbis red plastic about 20 l for Honda XLR or XR 250 or 350 or 600 post 84 (model RFVC, to confirm).  It does not climb himself on XLS 250/400/500 of 79 to 81 or XLR 250/400/500 of 82/83.  Sold with cork and 2 faucets.  Past color to the sun, but the plastic supple and waterproof remainder

sounds like it only fits 84 onwards???
