I just noticed that the first round of Reedys SuperX series is being telecast LIVE on FoxSports 1 at 5:00pm today. How good is that!
-
Magoo. it is going to be great, I have booked in a jocks and socks day for today and tomorrow, super X and Moto GP, now where is that esk so I don't have to move from the chair ;D
It is looking a bit warm up this way so my break out the Mankini for a run ??? :D ;D
-
You really know how to ruin a blokes weekend don't you Shane. I'm having visions and they aint pretty. Can you PM me your phone #, I want to give you a call.
-
ahh! the power of the mankini is working it's magic...
soon everyone will want Shanes phone number...
;D
-
not again
-
ohh god well its off to the therepest again
-
I got a luke warm response when i asked how it was by one who watched it. So ?????
-
I was expecting a spectacular but afterwards I was a bit dismayed about the whole event when a friend of mine (ex kawasaki race team manager) rang me and used the word "pathetic" to discribe it ,.. and I was very dissapointed that I could not disagree, It can only get better I suppose. :-\
Did anyone watch round 19 of the world speedway championship just after the supercross?, Now THAT was spectacular!!!
-
Bummer. I really want this to be a hit for Reedy and for aussie mx/ superx. Lets hope it gets better.
-
i think location ha allot to do with the failure of this one im not going to judge until the melbourne round
-
i'm all set to watch the Brisbane round but it's not till 29th of Nov.
lets hope it's lives up to the hype!
-
The camera coverage was fine but the overall coverage was as boring as batshit. I was watching it with a bunch of dedicated motocross fans scanning three generations on a giant screen HD TV and by half way through the telecast we were all talking amongst ourselves, hardly taking any notice if what was going down on the telly. The announcer (? Read) was annoying and Chad Reeds superiority turned it into a bit of a joke. It's doubtful the Perth round won the sport any new fans but we can live in hope that the other rounds are an improvement.
-
Yeah, it was a bit dull to watch and yet the track looked OK, the racing was probably fine to watch in person, and there seemed to be a decent crowd. But the final was very pedestrian. I think to be honest the real problem was that the riders weren't up to it. Now, given I can't ride for crap that's a big call, but the reason the US stuff looks so good is that the whole field can ride the track and do so spectacularly. Watching the Aussie guys rolling the whoops and things was less than inspiring. The guy I was watching it with is no moto fan, but he spotted it straight away. He said that Reed flows with the bike while everyone else seemed to be fighting the bike.
Now, that said, I think the Aussie guys will pick up the pace and do it much better in time, and this is what they need to become contenders internationally. But in the meantime, will it be enough to grab the fans? I hope so. Let's see what the different formats do at the other rounds...
I still think it's the best thing to hit the Aussie scene in ages. And I'll still watch every round.
Edit: Just went and checked the ADB Forums and the few comments there were positive, so that's good. And as was pointed out some position updates during the event would help it along no end. I reckon the next few events will be much better as they get it sorted and the riders step it up. I have no doubt that most of the top Aussies WILL step it up.
-
Telecast live? Hmmm, bugger I missed it.
I've never been a fan of modern Supercross but I'm prepared to have another look.
I intend to take the Golden Child to the event when it hits Brisbane.
E74, I have to agree on the Speedway stuff - great sport, great camera work! 8)
I saw an ad on the telly for the Melbourne round (I think).
The logo is SUPER X.
The voice over called it "Super ex".
Is that correct? I thought it was pronounced 'Super cross'.
Is the 'ex' bit meant to fit it in with 'ex games'?
You know, the modern EXtreme type sports etc.
Just wondering...
-
I went along to the Perth opener for a look and the live commentator, whose name eludes me but may have been Bruce Ruxton ( only with dreadlocks, not the ex-RSL pres) was also calling it Super-Ex..... anyway, in realtime the on-track action was pretty damn impressive, the fact that the star of the show was able to lap up to fourth spot isn't that much of a revelation considering he and Bubba are able to do likewise in the States. The Aussie support riders worked manfully, with hearty contributions from Reardon, Anderson, Boyd and co. TV may have disguised the fact that, as stunning as Chad Reed is, that works Suzuki flat hauls arse off the corners, and most of his advantage was gained in the way he and the bike screamed across the short, steep stutter jumps.
Apart from the wet, cold wintry conditions, the appalling snack bar service, and the fact that windy conditions curtailed the freestyle mx intervals during track maintenance, meaning the punters had to sit for an hour TWICE without any form of entertainment, the concept was new and exciting, the racing was hard and fast, and the public's admiration for Chad's effort in promoting, riding and winning the event, was tangible, and I think as an opener it will only lead to bigger and better events, and i think we should support and encourage it as hard as we can. Go, Chad !
-
I also went along. The track was just a 15 minute drive from home. same way I go to work every day. work only 1km further down the road from the track.
bought my $99 VIP ticket as soon as they were advertised. Sat right in front of the finish line. $10 to park the car so it wasnt a mile away. $10 for a programme.
Security guy stopped the older lady in front of me taking a coffe in as drinks were not allowed in. same went for food. He then said I couldnt bring my camera in. only digital cameras allowed? told him it was (it isnt) shrugged and let me in with it.
It was bloody windy and cold with the occasional bit of rain. The chance to see Chad Reed and some of Australias best riders made all hassles worth putting up with.
shouldnt have bothered. the racing was boring. the pro lite fields were full. the open class didnt have enough riders. I have been racing / watching motocross for a long time, and you know when you see a fast rider or something that really wants you to get out there. none of this did. I wasnt really impressed with Chad Reed. I know he,s the world champ at super x and he lapped up to fourth place but...it just didnt do it for me.
I left about half way through the open final. went home and watched the moto gp qualifying i had recorded on foxtel.
I then watched the super x on Fox. It looked better on tv than it did live. hope it goes better over east for everyone. maybe some better riders in the fields might make it better?
I was impressed with Daniel Reardon. Saw him in the pits and he was probably the only one who wasnt up himself. rides pretty good to.
-
has anyone here watched an AMA supercross in the flesh?
i like what GD66 had to say as i think the sport still has some teething to be sorted and we should give it a decent go. if our guys can learn from all this then it'll become a fantastic stepping stone to the bigger and better overseas stuff and it'll be right here in our backyard.
i'd love to see a few more internationals in the mix and couldn't care where they came from, japan or europe? the timing of this series is damn near perfect for a rider wanting to get in shape for the AMA series.
-
The guy who tops our 'Old School' class here in the ACT teamed up with three other Over-35s blokes and spent three weeks in the States a month ago, taking in the Washougal Outdoors round and the X Games. He said he had a total total blast of a time.
Quality guy time for sure, as they drank and partied the whole wife-free time (plus the yanks love aussies). he said the race events were just amazing. the scale, the hype, the speed, the glitz and glam. our nationals ain't nothin' compared with theirs. the whole town of washougal revs up when the AMA comes to town and the party just doesn't stop till its over. the whole town goes along - cool or what? they had a blast at the x games, saying they had pit passes and got some quality time with patrana and carmichael (with pics of course). how good would that trip have been....... :P :P :P
-
AWESOME AWESOME BLOODY AWESOME,did I say it was AWESOME.
Fantastic road trip with our local club.
Racing was fast and stylish, can they go :o
AWESOME stuff,no fear.
Go our Aussie kids of the future.
This SX series will go all the way ,by the time it comes to the last championship at Brisbane.
It will get bigger and better, not sure if we(oz) have the grunt to run this kind of series for the years too come in Aussie.
We thought the crowd was full and packed to the rafters at Perth, but they are saying it was only 12,000,it would be mine blowing for us country folk to be in a crowd of more that 30,000,really is beyond us too image a crowd of more than 30,000.
Really be a day to take a sedative, being in line for a burger with crowds of that capacity ;D
-
Hmmm... I think tonight's was a better effort. The guys seemed more comfortable on the track and it was cool to see Chad have to come through the pack in the final. Marmont rode real well too. The track looked OK to me, the coverage was good, and they had the scrolling positions ticker working (most of the time). I think it'll only get better. As for the 5 man/lap races, I liked it. Nice and quick, and the riders didn't get so strung out it got boring.
What's everyone else reckon?
-
Well it's two weeks after the Perth Super X and the local kids who made the 2 hours drive to the venue are still havin dreams about it. :P
Great stuff for the future riders of Australia to get to watch/enter and be totally in awe of the whole fantastic show.
Great stuff for Australia and Thanks to Chad Reed for puttin it all together. 8)

I remember we discussed the proposed Australian Super X last year so I went looking for the thread.
There was a piece on the telly one year ago; so here's what was proposed back in Nov 07:
I saw an interview with the Supercross Promotor the other night (MXTV on the Aurora channel - Tue nights at 8.00pm Qld time).
He says many Promotors have been burned financially in their attempts at Supercross in Australia.
In his own words "Supercross is nowhere" in this Country; it hasn't grabbed the Aussie public at all.
He had a few concepts and his vision is to see Supercross promoted as 'entertainment' more so than 'motorsport'.
He believes 'man on man' races would be exiting - that's two people in the race.
Races in general would be much shorter; consisting of only a few laps.
This would raise the intensity of both the competitors and the crowd.
He noted 'Crusty Demons' as a good example of what stadium crowds like to see.
This concept has taken off and Supercross can and should follow this lead.
He went on to say Chad Reed would return to OZ in the next few years and Chad is also keen to lift the profile of the sport in this Country.
He believes Chad would smoke the field in the first season but the locals would rise to the challenge and lift their game over the following seasons.
History shows that certainly worked when the Europeans raced in the U.S. all those years ago.
The Americans lifted their game and look at them now.
He had some good ideas and they were all 'outside the box'.
Supercross has about fifty too many jumps and fifty too many corners for my liking.
It's not my cup of tea (I'm a traditionalist) but I can see my young bloke would love it.
I haven't yet caught the Super X on the telly, but I'm wondering how close is the concept to the Promoters original idea?
-
It's pretty close I think. They have a range of different formats- some traditional heats/finals, some shorter sharper races like in Adelaide last weekend, and some man on man stuff. They've had big crowds and they've included the Australian FMX championships in with it.
Is it any good?
Not sure really. It's not as exciting to watch as the US SX which features fast riders and bigger than big presentation. So far the two rounds I've seen still lacked a bit, and have suffered through being held in daylight. Adelaide's round featured some good rides and even some racing and I thought it was a better spectacle on TV than the Perth round. Hopefully the formula will keep getting better.
As to how the spectators and the industry like it, I don't know. They've had good crowds tho...
-
As much as I'd hoped that the South Aussie Super X round would have been an improvement over the Burnswood event, It turned out to be yet another let down. The production and camera work is too choppy and that bloody announcer standing next to the track annoys me even more. As good as the local riders like Daniel Reardon and the rest are, the superiority of Chad Reed is a little embarrasing. The track seemed OK but the late afternoon time with cameras pointing into the sun caused flare that gave the production an amateur look. No serious TV network would have a camera position that allowed that. By mid way through the telecast I was channel searching to see what else was on. It just didn't grab me unfortunately.
I'm attending the Parramatta event and live in hope that it'll improve by then.
-
Yeah, I have to agree. the camera work is a bit average, especially the angles that don't seem to catch the action as well as it might. That announcer - well, I don't like it much either, but then again, it's all a bit Steve Irwin and I think young people might go for that sort of thing. I reckon it'd gain a lot if a croc actually grabbed him tho. Maybe a quick death roll through the whoops would really set the night off.
-
5 LAP FINAL and they want how much to go. If this all we can do here 5 laps no wonder we dont meet international standard racing sprint racers if it stays like this its all down hill for us aussie riders hey
-
We are going down to Geelong for this week ends Supercross, and we are taking our bikes down for a ride day at Barrabool the day before ( friday) I know our bikes are not vintage, but us riders are!
-
It's got me buggered why they are running in the daylight. The track dried out and became dusty and in the 450 final the riders were riding into the sun in some sections. Supercross is a much better spectacle under lights at night. The 450 heats had only 5 or 6 riders each race and the field rapidly spread out. I'm glad the final was only 5 laps, fortunately Reed got a bad start and it was a pretty good race with him coming through the pack. Hopefully each round will get a little better as they sort it out.
-
Geelong SX this weekend?
What day/time pls - I'm determined to catch it on the telly this time!
-
I think they said that some venues don't even have lights. They wanted big enough places to run larger tracks, but some didn't have lights as well. Also timing I think for telecasts. I suppose Australia doesn't have the crowds/audiences at sporting events to generate the money needed for the sort of infrastructure the Yanks enjoy.
According to the guide, it's live on Fox from 4-7 PM this coming weekend. I think that means it's in daylight again...
-
I watched the Geelong race on channel 10 yesterday arvo. The pro lites race was up to about the 16th lap and getting interesting when the pratts went to an add break, a station promo and when they restarted the show we had the first 5 mins of the show repeated. Finally someone realised what was going on and I got the hear the last 20 seconds of the pro lites post race commentary before the first of the 6 lap x 3 Pro open finals.
Apart from the f*%kup in the pro lites broadcast, not a bad show. I may be a bit old fashion but I did prefer the 20 lap race, seemed a bit more time to recover from a mistake or bad start. maybe a bit more down to riders and ability rather than luck.
After rereading some of the earlier posts I think the pro lites had more appeal as it wasn't a race for second place. Reed is incredibly fast but it looked like he was in cruise mode most of the time. He got mediocre starts in his heats but still led by about lap 2-3 of 6. he turned up the pace to get to the lead then stayed just in front. Hopefully the locals will take this as an example rather than a put down.

yeah but what a track! geelong, that is. sensational for spectators (and the riders no doubt). whoever designed did bloody good. and the aussie riders, while obviously slower than chad, did carry a heck of a lot of speed. i was impressed!
-
Have read that the injury list is getting longer. :o
I'm thinking Chad may have to bring some heavier competition into the show.
Be interesting to see what the big towns on the east coast bring on the sx dates. ;D
-
If your there, the sights the sounds and the scents Yes!!! but this SX like the majority of motor racing on TV was boring and mediocre to watch, poor quality production values, noisy uneducated uninspiring commentators only filling in the gaps between shit loads of unrelated adds.
-
I was going to the Parramatta round but thankfully I'm finally driving up to Qld to pick up my US imports. I've unloaded my tickets onto my mates unsuspecting sons. I didn't bother with the TV coverage of the Geelong round. If it's repeated during the week I may have a squiz but for the moment, I've lost all interest.
-
I just watched the highlights on the SuperX site and i'm with Twisty . Track looks good and the racing was fair dinkum and i luv the interviews on there way to the ambo .
-
I was there and the atmoshphere, sights, sounds & racing was excellent. The TV coverage was pretty good too. I think the next few rounds can only get better with the different formats and the fact they are gong into the night as well. Chad is the ultimate showman: bad starts and coming through the pack to win, going last in the hot lap run and winning by just 1 second. He is playing with the locals and making for decent veiwing.
Cheers,
K

Well Super X delivered tonight at Townsville ;) may have taken a bit of good old Queensland rain but the racing was fantastic, to see Chad finally beaten livened it up a bit as well but the skill on show was first class in those conditions!!
The man on man formula will be back for sure ;)
Roll on Brisbane and a big crowd for the final ;D
Who up this way is going??
-
I will be there. I will wear a pink carnation so you can spot me :-*
-
Yeah, that wasn't bad at all was it? I thought that man on man format would be dull as but in fact it was pretty damn good. Different, for sure. Wouldn't like an entire series like that, but as a one-off it's good. McGrath rode well too I thought. The Aussie boys have really improved I think, there were some great rides in the sloppy conditions.
-
I will be there. I will wear a pink carnation so you can spot me :-*
Brad will this be forming part of the new riding gear in the golden boy collect 09? :D :D
Graeme, I was impressed by Mcgrath to ride in those conditions like that and I think he knocked himself around when he missed that triple in his quarter final ride. Hey you would not like to piss Chad off would you? he was out for blood in that bronze ride off ??? ???
-
pink ;)
-
I went down to Townsville and it was great - despite my initial scepticism the Man on Man format was really good. Made for some close racing. The 2 storms cooled everyone down and made the racing much more interesting. If it didn't rain it was shaping up to be another Chad benefit. The crowd actually got very excited when Chad was beaten. I think they were just happy to see a competition.
I would go again no worries. Hopefully the attendance was enough for them to come back up North. We don't get many events of this calibre up this way.
-
Just went to the signing / meet at Springwood Suzuki. Im not really the type to do that sort of thing but i did and was disappointed . Chad was a robot and clearly didn't want to be there. Chad Reed... get stuffed. I feel better now. I am going to the superx this time as i have tickets but won't bother next time. I was in the first 50 or so, so he had only just got there.
-
I've always thought Chad is a Hollywooder and more interested in the fame and ridiculous money he makes, that's why i'd never bother going to one of those things. I lost interest in him when he decided to quit doing outdoor motocross and ride Supercross only. I'm going to the SuperX this weekend in the hope someone else takes a win again.. gets boring watching Reed run away with every race. I'd love to see Reardon get up and win one.
-
Just got back from the superx, what a great night . Thrills and spills a plenty. I gave Chad the finger as he rode past. He pretended he didn't see me but i saw a tear in the corner of his eye forming. Take that ya bastard!
Shit he can ride.
-
what a top night!
absolutely awesome track! good to see Jeremy in the flesh, he still rides well. am a bit on the fence as far as the 4 X 5 lap main event goes. would of much prefered to see a full 20 lap main, but then again, the way some of the riders wore out, perhaps for thier own safety it was a good idea.
Reed clicked off a 38 second lap, Readon a 39 second, McGrath did a 41 {i think} with most of the other guys in the high 41 and slower. to see someone with that kind of speed {Reed} and then to see how we stack up behind that, our boys have got a fair way still to go.
can't wait for next year!
{hot tip for stadium food, roll up a few corned beef 'n' pickle sanga's in a 't' towel and stash em on the bottom of your backpack} stadium food is CRAP and thier service is worse!
-
SUPER X AT QE11 STADIUM BRISBANE WELL WORTH IT TO SE A GREAT CHAMPION
CHADS REAR SUSPENSION OVER THE STUTTER JUMPS HAD NO EQUAL
DANIEL TRIED HIS BEST WITH WHAT HE HAD
HOW ABOUT JEREMY 37 YEARS OLD AND STUCK IT UP MOST AUSSIE PRO RIDERS
CHAD AND JEREMY TWIN NAC NAC WAS GOOD
-
Yeah bugger I missed it. Couldn't justify the money unfortunately.
Watched it 'live' on the telly though and it looked OK with a good size crowd visible in the background.
Not a fan of the 29 jumps (typical of supercross), but it is raising the profile of the sport.
Apparently the five lap races are there at the insistance of the TV people; 20 laps aren't snappy enough to hold the excitement...
Riders and the average MX fan want the longer races but right now they're just trying to get people 'into' the sport.
Time will tell.
Prediction:
I can see that trackside blonde dickhead with the microphone getting centre-punched one day.
He 'reports' live to air with his back to the bikes only one metre away - never watching what's coming.
Did anyone else see the MX marathon on Saturday afternoon telly?
MX was on three tv channels!
Several episodes of MXTV (including Hoonies replay) on the 'Aurora' channel and the FIM MX series (every round) from Europe on one of the sports channels.
A storm came through and I lost reception for about ten minutes.
Flicked over to the 'free to air' tv and there was a replay of last weeks Townsville Super X!!
I've never seen so much MX on the telly - ever!
-
even sunrise gave a short plug this morning about chad new super x champion, with some good visuals. they just could not believe the freestyler doing the 360 plus dangle the feet while upside down. and good for profile.

Caught the show on local news last night.Glad to see MX geting some TV time.
Also pretty stoked to say the young pup doing the tricks is Josh Sheehan from down south WA,does alot of training 30km from here.
cheers

The Brisbane SuperX was awesome. Huge crowd, great atmosphere and good racing. Chad won all 4 x 5 lap races easily even after a mid pack start in a couple of them. He really is a level above the rest of the Aussies. I think the short races were good, made for some exciting racing. It was cool to see Chad and MC click of a couple of nac nacs side by side and look at each other.
-
It was cool to see Chad and MC click of a couple of nac nacs side by side and look at each other.
I was hoping the meaning of 'nac nac' would become apparent without me having to ask...
They mentioned it on the telly - but I still don't have a clue; pls share. :-\
-
It was MC's trademark freestyle trick. You really need to see it. Maybe the SuperX website will have it up on the highlights video.
-
Old mate was looking a bit chunky i must say. Certainly not in peak condition.
-
It was awesome from down on the field :o The nac nac was the highlight. The top ten shootout was better than i thought it would be, how fast would chad be on a 250 ???
I also loved when MC and Chad looked at each other over the triple during race 3.
Brad He was puffing after that first heat win.

This,dear wombat,is a nac nac.

What an awsome show, how's mcgrath's form, 15 yrs past his prime,5 years retired and still running second to reed.
Loved the finals format, and like the sound of the man on man final format, where 2 riders race 2 laps the winner goes to the next round the loser is out, this goes on until only 2 riders are left for a 2 lap final........talk about no holds barred racing.
Would have been good to see more Aussie riders like Byrner, Metcalf.
I'll be back.
-
i'll be back for another look next year too!
i just hope this series draws some more international flavour as the track was reeaal good and they missed out!
-
I always thought the name came from Can-Can spelt backwards ? given that he kicks his leg backwards instead of forwards?
-
Ah, I see. Yes, I'm suitably impressed.
Thanks Evo. ;D
-
I can't see the last round on the free to air program for saturday or anywhere - what's the go???
-
The series is getting better, as is the telly coverage but I wish somebody would give that trackside announcer idiot the flick. Good to see McGrath can still put on a show but I suspect his success is more a bit of manufactured "showbiz" than him still being competitive. I doubt that he'd even qualify in the US.

FIRKO
I THOUGHT JEREMY WOULD BE A SHOW PONY AS WELL
MY OWN EYES SAW HIM LIVE
DID NOT LOOK SHOW BIZED TO ME
