I have just discovered that UFO Plastics from Italy have a vintage range catalogue. They are remaking some of the original plastics from the 70's and 80's.
They told me they dont sell direct to the public and that I should order via their Australian supplier Cassons. Cassons told me they dont bring in the vintage range (not enough volume to bother) and suggested I try to buy via a European or US website.
Does anyone have a supplier thay have used to buy vintage UFO plastics from?
-
Oldfart knows..he's got the UFO plastic market cornered! :P :D seriously, ask Stew, he's bought loads of UFO stuff from the states (for me as well..thanks petal :-*) it was a lot cheaper than locally and best of all it was available but watch that dollar conversion ;)
-
Cheers Doc....so the Oldfart has a nose for vintage plastic. What's he like with wine and cheese? ;D ;D ;D I'll PM him.
-
Here's where I buy my UFO plastics , ask for them to be flat packed ( 10 per shipment )
http://www.oemcycle.com/Item/product/1581
Payed Via PAYPAL postage on 10 guards cost me $74-00 USD ( feb 2007 )

cassons bring in the front guad for yz125-490 77-89 and the front number plate there what im running on the 125e
-
Thanks Oldfart. I'm on to them right now!
-
i just look on the site the yamaha range of older plastic is avaliable through cassons pricing isnt too over the top either

That UFO guard is to suit 83~89. Its passable on the 80~82 models, but fitting it to an earlier bike is a crime against good taste when the right ones are available.
Ditto the front number plate, pretty much.
-
That sounds like good news!!! Where did you find this out? Do you have a link to their vintage catalogue? I hope they are doing those old style universal enduro rear fenders with tail lights as im finding it impossible to find the Stilmotor ones I want
is this where you found it out?

yeh they look ok on the bike but just arnt 100% but ok for race plastics
-
Yes Leith they dont advertise the vintage UFO plastics catalouge on their website. They sent me it by email. I am happy to email it to anyone or else you can email via ufoplast.com them and ask about it direct. Cheers
-
hi, could you please email it to me? [email protected]
-
on its way
-
Thanks for the catalogue! They are doing all the old skool 70’s and 80’s mx and enduro fenders and headlights and number plates etc.
NOW how do I get some???
Has anyone tried to buy direct from UFO?
I reckon this stuff would have to be bought from euro/UK somewhere
How long has it been since they re-released this vintage stuff?
Vinduro guys will really like this stuff
-
KDX rear guards??
-
I have oemcycle.com in the US checking to see if they can get the Vintage UFO stuff for me - thanks oldfart for the lead. Will report back when they get back to me.
UFO Italy wont sell direct to the public. Cassons cant be stuffed bringing them into Australia - dissappointing attitude. How hard can it be to add a few pre ordered items to their standard bulk order of modern stuff?
-
Its mainly the universal type stuff, but many of these were fitted to the euro bikes any way. What I like is how they have listed the years next to each item which is I think when they made them from/the period of bike they suit.
Eg they got the vented Acerbis Nost front fender as fitted to 83-89 husky, KTM, Cagiva, maico etc
The 79-83 M. Robert front fender, and a whole heap of other mid 70’s period plastics some of which look to a lot like Preston Petty Tony D and the enduro fender with taillight to me and also some replica Stilmotor items. There has been so many Italian companies over the years such as, UFO, Acerbis, Stilmotor, M’Robert, Cemoto etc and they all seem to have made the same fenders so I don’t know who copied who.
No green plastics as yet. By the looks of it they are just starting out and want to see how things go before expanding into other colours. They are re-doing this enduro fender in yellow, red and white but not green. Green still available from dennis kirk USA

Also many of the plastics on this site they doing

there is a dealer in UK I am also going to see if he can import this vintage UFO line as he previously had Stilmotor but they have just about finished up doing plastics so im going to suggest he change over to the vintage UFO line
I am also going to ask if UFO will be re-doing the EVO style drum brake fork covers
here is a extract from the catalogue
After thirty years of successful activity in the world of off-roaders, UFO PLAST is unable to stop, and
once again this large Tuscan company astonishes us by rendering in the vintage key a whole series of
spare part accessories destined for a market which is becoming more and more in turmoil - the market
of classic motor bikes. UFO PLAST, who has written many chapters on the history of the off-roader, and
who can boast that they have the largest stock of spare parts with the widest range of articles in the
world, has decided to take on yet another challenge. Of course, it is still about off-roaders, but this time
UFO PLAST has decided to take a leap into the past, into that historical past connected to great names
such as AIM, ANCILOTTI, BSA, BENELLI, BULTACO, CAGIVA, MAICO, HUSQVARNA, KTM, MONTEST,
OSSA, PUCH and VILLA.
For each of these models and for still more others which go from 1970 to 1987, UFO PLAST already has
available a complete series of accessories such as mudguards, number plate holders and headlights, in
various colours and produced exclusively by injection moulding., but more than anything else connected
to an authentic and much sought after “made in Italy”.
And so with UFO PLAST VINTAGE the story continues...
-
UFO , Acebbis , Cemoto they all appear at a first glance to be the same or similar , but when put side by side they are completely different in shape , colour and most of all flexibility.
-
yeah i know they are all differnt but what i would like to know is are they/did they use to share their moulds around or did each company copy others products??
I’m wondering if this vintage UFO line could be handled here by Mainly maico/vintage plastics? I think it would be a good idea if a pretty well known reputable vintage company could import this UFO vintage line since Cassons are not interested at all. The prices MUST be made competitive and more economical to buy from the Australian seller otherwise people wont bother and will buy overseas. I would much rather buy large items like fenders locally but as it currently stands no one brings in what I want or the prices are just too high and I can get what I want from overseas cheaper myself.
-
as for KDX rears
they are here
http://www.motoduro.co.uk/include/kawasaki1.php
i think they are DC plastics though?????
-
UFO already have an agent in Australia . I approached them last year to increase there range to cater for VMX plus Vinduros . THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED . F em so I buy cheaper in USA
-
yes i know that it is Cassons but they dont want the vintage line so perhaps another specialist Australian vintage mob will support us???.
ive sent off an email to a UK supplier who may be interested. will let you know how that goes
-
Maybe it's time UFO had a look at their distributor?, I don't reckon Cassons would be moving a great deal of UFO product anyway, A mate of mine is involved in the company that has the Acerbis distriibutorship in OZ and the polisport, racetech and about five other newley introduced plastics brands has prostituted the market considerably,
Maybe the vintage bike plastics market may just be a more substansial for UFO than the modern bike market?
-
Maybe everyone who wants something that Cassons is too lazy to supply, should ring Cassons and give 'em a hard time?
Most likely, someone with SFA idea about the vintage market has simply (and incorrectly) figured that there wasn't a worthwhile market for the old stuff.
Thirty or fifty phone calls might change that...
-
i will do just that. Cassons have always been hard to deal with. They only allow one retail outlet per town. if they get many people asking then perhaps they may do something about it, but surely its not too hard to get some stuff in in their next order of the modern stuff they currently bring in.
-
looks like this is the UK importer. the vintage line is shown here.
http://www.mdracingproducts.co.uk/products/ufo-vintage-plastics/2/
-
Good detective work Leith! :) :) I notice they are selling the vintage fenders for double the price of modern stuff - AUD$60 for the Husky fender I'm after .....the poor old VMX punter take a hit once again >:( >:( I have enquired about the shipping pain and wait for more painful news ;D
If enough forum members were interersted we could do a bigger order and save on freight perhaps?
-
im interested in a few bits too, but gotta wait a little while till the wallet expands. They certainly look like the place to get the stuff anyway
-
If any one is interested in these then contact MD racing. They told me the listed prices inc VAT which we do not have to pay and they also said that due to the high level of interest and inquirys from Australia and USA they are offering us a discount and shipping at cost. This is the UK UFO importer, who is willing to help out retail buyers overseas. Pity that the Australian importer cant be as helpful.
-
Yes Marion Doble (MD?) said Australian customers will get a 20% discount off pre VAT list price ;D ;D. What great service. Said US customers have also been contacting her. Perhaps forum members on both sides of the Pacific have been making enquiries!
