Title: powder coated hubs

Recently powder coated hubs on 83 xr 500.Do I need to strip coating where disk and sprocket are seated.

Probably a good idea to strip carefully the contact faces
some powder coating is so thick you wont get the sprocket / disc to fit without stripping anyway
to prevent corrosion maybe put a little copper grease on the faces

Strip it 100%.

That area should be masked.

I powder coated a pair of hubs years ago.
I masked the sprocket and disc mounting surfaces but found the powder coating cracked and flaked away where the spokes pulled against the mounting holes in the hub.
