Are we able to ride 1978 models in pre 1978 events i.e. YZ250/400E, RM125/250C ? Or do we have to ride them in EVO? Cheers

My understanding is that you'd have to ride EVO. My 1975 Montesa can't be ridden in Pre 75 so I'd think it's the same. It's a hassle I know. Just hold 'er on longer........ ;)

I thought some clubs were running pre 80 to cater for that period before single shocks etc etc etc?

Pre-78 means just that - before 1978.
The 78 models are catered for in the Evo or pre-80 class (depending on which state you live in).
I don't have the book in front of me, but I'm pretty sure the pre-78 class allows identical carry-over later bikes (and parts) like the pre-75 class does - so it might be possible to back-spec some of those 78 model bikes to be legal in the pre-78 class.
As an example, if you look at the YZ125D and 125E, to make the E strictly pre-78 legal would require (at least) a D frame, swing arm, and barrel and head (and therefore is probably not worth the effort). You could probably make it acceptable at club-level with only the swingarm swap, but you'd still not be strictly legal.

Hi all
Here is a link to the MA General Competition Rules for 2007.
http://www.ma.org.au/AM/Template.cfm?Section=General_competition_rules&Template=/CM/ContentDisplay.cfm&ContentFileID=21670 (http://www.ma.org.au/AM/Template.cfm?Section=General_competition_rules&Template=/CM/ContentDisplay.cfm&ContentFileID=21670)
Check out section 18.2, it will give you all the information on eligibility for all classes.
It takes a little while to download as it's quite a big PDF file.
Cheers,
Mark.
