Did the brake on these ever really work?

I'm about to outlay for a new disk & pads (Already have put a new Master cyc on it) and The forks are only just passible.

Maybe a CR-XR front forks and brake might be the go?

my 88 xr600 had really powerfull front brake compered to the tt250 of the same year a riding buddy had even though both bikes had the same twin piston caliper setup.id say if you looked up the specs on both bikes the xr would have a smaller bore master cylinder compered to the tt.

I don't remember the brake being that bad, back in 86 it seemed pretty good to me. Rose coloured glasses maybe?
Are you comparing it to a modern disc?

I did get the suspension fiddled with on mine back in 86, had stronger springs fitted both ends and the shock revalved, can't remember what was done to the forks
