Title: RM 400N shocks resto
Post by: Tony Two Times on March 29, 2019, 09:59:39 am
So are the original remote resovoir shocks from the late 70's models worth rebuilding and re-using?

Would like to stay original but wary of spending on rebuild vs replace.

Yes and yes. Engineers rebuild with machining and mucking around required though.

Did a 125N set a while ago. Used ohlins seal heads and 12 mm CrMo hardchromed shafts + ohlins  rod ends 10mm longer than original. You will loose about 10mm of stroke. I also cut the reservoirs open and made aluminium caps with a valve.
Or you can just change oil and keep them original. I am using 5w and they work fine for my riding  :)

Excellent thanks. Will take them to Rad for a rebuild.
