I need to change the triple clamps on my DT1 so that I can fit a high-mount front mudguard, I guess any later Yams that run 34mm forks will fit?

G'day John, back in the day they made a aluminum adapter plate to carry the guard. They look pretty cool and make the bike look period correct if that matters to you. I made one years ago from an old aluminum sign I found lying around.

Yeah, I know the triple tree is off a later model lol but the same applies to the old triple tree and I only had that triple tree at the time. So I used the alloy one. jimson

Yep l made an alloy plate to come-off the two 8mm triple-clamp bolts currently there, thought l'd have an option ready if it doesn't work :-) Thanyou very much for your tips, it's appreciated.

With that design l could still run the stock steering damper :-)

If your going to run it Pre 70 you may want to stick with the originals. Several bikes have been turned away at title meetings with later alloy Yamaha items, lucky they got originals with and managed to change back and get a ride.
The brackets are quite simple to make and that is what everyone used in the day.

Are there later model clamps, with 4 fender screw-holes, that aren't alloy? I think DT3 are steel?

DT3 are steel and are the same as the later DT1's. My RT3 had a simple bracket that picked up the 4 bottom clamps bolts and then form what I can remember without looking at it ,picked up the steering damper mount at the rear. I could find the guard with bracket attached and take a photo if it would help. Ditch the steering damper as well they are crap and not needed. All these brackets could be bought from your local Yamaha shop back in the day, can't understand why the stopped selling them.

Thanks for the info, now that l've had a bit of a think about it all, l'll just weld something to the steel clamps :-)
Your post made me realize that l must remember to stay within the class guidelines.
