there was a dellorto kit for the later XL250 bitd,i'm struggling with a XL350 atm, a keyster kit improved it slightly, was very overly rich, needle jet nozzles prob flogged out,the new needle halved it noticeably,i've fitted dellortos to SR500's,good results there, but cant help you with jetting (yet lol),suck it & see??, :P

a PHBE Dellorto is a 2 stroke carb . it can be used in a 4 stroke but you have to shorten the emulsion tube .

Davy,  I run a Dellorto PHM 38 on my 412. It came off a BMW R90. The bike runs so well I've never had the carb apart to check the specs. Starts first kick, idles like a trail bike but goes like buggery. No bog, no hesitation, just pulls really strong from bottom to top.

Hi Davy, I have an xl with 390 kit venolia. (84 mm), mild cam (unknown)  home made 50 mm pipe. and 36 mm phf dellorto. Runs really well from idle to about 6500 rpm (tacho) then usually not so good, maybe fat? maybe pipe ?? maybe advancer  unstable. Starts first kick. Great midrange.
The phf looks like a phbe with accelerator pump. My setting for what its worth is Slide 60/3 , needle K32 with clip in second from bottom slot, (i.e. needle second highest position) pilot jet 75, choke jet 75, AB 265 needle jet. main jet 185. Idle screw 2 turns out. Spark plug NGK D9EA, Pings on D8EA, could probably go to D10EA.  Mototek CDI 350 electroninc ignition ( made starting much easier)

Just a possible heads up on the dealer recommendation Previous to the 390 I had a 422 cc (87mm venolia) with megacycle camshaft 12740, and same dellorto phf 36.  Settings were 60/3 slide, main jet 140, pilot 65, needle jet AB265, needle K4 on lowest setting ( top slot) Fuel screw 2.5 turns out.  Heavy bog off idle and it siezed lean at mid throttle 3500-4000 rpm on an uphill tuning run. Lesson learned - dont tune on highway where there is no shoulder to pull off.......There may have been a blocked passageway but i dont think so.

Brewster...seizing is never good... motek ignition is a rare thing these days , i use eletrex world electronic ignition ... a vast improvement everywhere..

I'm going to have my 350 fitted with the 412 kit, But I do not want to scrimp on carbies this time. I dont mind if I have to spend $150 on a genuine mikuni (not set on one just yet though). peace of mind compared to buying a chinese PWK and having nothing but trouble and heartbreak with it and trying everything to get it to go.

Some sources tell me to go with the 38, some the 36.. What say you?

(Btw this bike will see the majority of it's riding on the road, so if a smaller carb nets me better part throttle response, so be it!

I had 250XL bored to 315cc in maico frame, used mikuni and cut needle shroud in half and never had hesitate off bottom again. Redline 350 was looking at from the redline factory owner had a bing.

Pity the guy committed suicide, or I / we'd be able to ask him personally.. :(
He also did Champion frames which was higher end competition flattrack focussed.
Redline was more a recreational bike brand.. Their XR75  (which was one of the first bikes they made frames for) kitted bikes now commonly go for over 10k in good condition.
