Title: Yet another scam
Post by: FAT-TOY on October 30, 2018, 11:17:19 am
Just received a scam email tell me that  ( I had just added another email address to my account ) I hadn't seen this one before.  It showed the new email address and asked me to confirm this by logging into my account.   The email just happened to have a place where I could (log in now), so the bastards could then see my pass word etc.  These friggin arseholes must be getting some wins, or they would stop sending the bloody emails.

Read a news article in the last couple of weeks saying that the groups most likely to be taken by any of these scams was the young & under 40 males, they're so used to everything being online that they don't stop to think that something doesn't seem right with a email
The stats are meant to be quite scary & getting worse

Ive been getting a few emails lateley containing a password I used years ago against something different, claiming they have my email password.

Usually poorly worded, saying they have my browser history and webcam footage of me watching movies on left handed websites.

Threaten to release the footage to all of my contacts if I dont pay them about $800 in bitcoin.

I dont have a webcam.

A mate has been receiving similar emails and he rang me in a bit of a panic last week, but I said not to worry.

just tell them you are outside with the rapid response group and they should come out with their hands up or facing a murderous cross fire...

yeah, except sender address is forged to be my address. I'd be emailing and threatening myself.

Just an infected box out on the intertubes somewhere.

neighbors may raise an eyebrow if you stand on the nature strip with hands on your head yelling "dont shoot"
