Title: yz 125 just bought 87 model

g day everyone, i have just bought a complete yz 125 for $250 thats complete and not running. is in fair condition conosidering the bikeis going on 20 years. the usual, supensions bearings enigne all need reconditioning but ok for age. i am wondering if anyone has been in contact with this modle and has any genral comments on the modle or anything i might need to know common to this modles. any reveiwss from the day or pictures would be appreciated.

The yz125 T was great, 2 of my mates bought them new. Brad also bought a Frank Pons Barrel for his and it ripped. I reckon this model introduced a few new innovations for the yammies, like the the rear braking thingy that was designed to optimise rear shocky performance under brakes, and possibly either the first or second model with crankcase induction although yamaha were still persisting with the rear drum when everyone else was rear disc. My guess is that the parts interchangeability would be close between the S-'86 and T-'87 models.

The BASS linked rear brake/suspension tihng first came out in 1985, and was ditched by 89 (maybe 88?).

According to the tests of the day: They had a lesser engine than the CR or KX of the same year, the rear drum wasn't cool, but their biggest drama was that the suspension wasn't as good as the CR and KX (it was too harsh).

I'm still wondering whether an 86 CR or an 87 YZ would be the best 125 for the ACTMCC's "Old School" class, but given my excess of projects, and lack of time/funds, it it just a wondering.
