Title: Solid rear stuts for dirt track?
Post by: Curtis on March 17, 2018, 02:12:16 pm
So Iv picked up a new twin shock toy (RM400), the rear shocks need rebuilding and I wont have a chance to get them done before broadford bonanza. Instead of bouncing around I was thinking of just fitting some solid struts instead of rear springs, whats peoples thoughts??
secondly whats the best 18'' rear trye for going around in circles? Iv got a old kenda but it not great.

 ;D

im not sure solid rear would be ideal...but doable. there are some really cheapish shocks that would get you out of trouble (cant think of the brand). mate had then on a pe and they were bloody good for the money. i think the seller was in albury.?? he was close to bendigo as ol mate had a change of springs twice to get it right.

Best for dt is the Michelin X11 18' trials.

If you want a cheapy, go the bee rubber for half the price. $120.

They are not too bad but don't last as long as the Michelin!!

Yeah agree with both of you,  I can get a cheap $100 set that will get me out of trouble..hell they might even be half decent.
I have a old Kenda that will work but ill eventually get a X11.. ;D

i would run what ya brung till you actually start thinking "this is poo" or the tyre is stuffed etc then start up grading. the first few rides will be adrenalin specials so you may not notice too much with the bike.

Put the struts on and get out there, its a hard track to master but the good thing about the Bonanza is if you are really keen you should be able to get a couple of hundred laps in.
Enjoy!

Back in the day everyone fitted a couple of steam pipe ilo shocks for lap racing and speedway stock bike racing.  not hard to get used to, and no plunging about at the rear, even on rough tracks.
