Title: Pre 85 Suzuki - Cut off date?
Post by: Husabergpete on September 01, 2008, 07:52:01 pm
Suzuki Gents,

What is the cut off date for the pre 85 class in Suzuki. Does it run off the build date? ie 10/84 is in even though the model designation is a 1985?

Regards

Pete

cut off date is actually a 1984 model
1985 cant be used unless it is unchanged from the
1984 model
main diff is disc brake everything else is the same
its funny though the cr 250 1984
uses the same front brake system
so technically you could put a honda 1984 front end on and it would
be legal ??? ??? ??? ::)
so work that out ;D
they are designated 1984 models
i have a kx500 1985 i purchased  in august 1984
but its an 85 model  its the designated year that is legal unless it is unchanged :'(

as i read it pre 85 means pre 85. 84 is before 85 so it is allowed but 85 is 85 and not before so not allowed. they key word is PRE :) follow that rule and i dont think you can go wrong.

Read MA rule book page 157     rule 18.7.14.2  Pre 85 Eliligbility . Acceptable machines for pre 85 are machines    Built up to and including the 1984 models The only exception to this GCR is where the model remains unaltered after this date . THe onus of proof of eligilbility shall rest  wholly on the rider or entrant of this machine

18.7.14.3 Modifications using later equipment are not allowed .

18.7.14.4 ALL COMPONENTS WILL BE OF THE PERIOD THE MACHINE WAS MANUFACTURED

Gents,

Still a bit of a head scratcher. But, reading the MA rule - the key words are `BUILT UP TO AND INCLUDING THE 1984 MODEL' Therefore, if the bike has a BUILT (plate) date of say 9th month '84 then it is an 84 model, even if Suzuki called it the model for 1985.

I know if you take a car for a trade in the first thing they look at is the build date and classify it off that `build plate date'. Otherwise you could part up whatever you wanted, make it look like the right year and head out on the track.

It's plain and simple. '85 models are built in late '84, if it's a designated '85 model then it's not eligible. No need to try and read between the lines.

If you have an 85 RM250 and painted the engine black, put a drum front end on hay presto you have an 84 model!! Thats the only difference.

Zorroz,

Thanks very much for that info. Seems like it could be a good thing then. Much appreciated all the info.
