Title: XL175 Ignition
Post by: Butcher on August 03, 2017, 05:00:24 pm
My mate has a 74 XL175 with no spark, he has been told it will not go unless it has a fully charged 6 volt battery connected. Apparantly it is only this model that has this ignition system. Can any one advise me on this? We have drank beer n discussed this but no result, just an empty fridge.

Yes that is correct i had a 1976  honda ct 125 ,had the same issues, they dont have their own exciter coil in the ignition so the 6v battery just gives it a jumpstart so to speak .Hope that helps.

when you guys sober up,remove headlite globe, headlite switch to hi beam, with a flat battery in situ it should fire up,you will have brought the lighting coils to bear,(the excitement bit  :D),presume its the orange/black model, later blue ones were more self generating from memory,& i remember the CT's being agriculteral models, didn't need a battery either??, :P

CT125 have never needed a battery to run, CT90 did. From someone that sold them OK
