A mate and i are going to have a look at the TT, i am after some good info on the vintage bike shops to have a look at. I'm particularly interested in BSA and CCM . any info would be much appreciated

On the Isle of Man there are three to see. I think the best one is Murray's at Santon, £5 admission and you get a cup of tea and a biscuit. A.R.E museum is in Douglas which is the town where the ferry pulls in, haven't been to that one , also there is a transport /bike one in Jurby, all the info is on the net.
In the U.K. There is the national bike museum in Birmingham ??? ,not sure. We went to Sammy Millers one down the south of England as well , fantastic .
I went to the TT in 2014 with mates, some then went back last year, everyone should go at least once.

What's the best way to arrange accommodation for a trip to the TT?
I'm guessing it's at a premium.

I'm guessing at this stage as practice week starts 27 May, race week 3rd June it's a bit late. First off ferry tickets from Liverpool may already booked out.
Hard to believe , it runs 24/7 for two weeks. To get a bike across next year may already be booked out.
Anyways homestay TT Facebook is somewhere to look. Some people let out their house privately on the quiet as that is illegal, have to be registered.
There are a lot of camping type setups but bit dicey.
2014 we went with Sportsnet travel Melbourne( all organised stayed at the casino). Not expensive at $8k when you consider flights hotel , meals and every day for a week they take you to a different part of the 62 k track.We did a lap on a bus with Cam Donald !!! Top that.Last year a pre arranged house.

I certainly didn't plan on booking for this year!
I assume each year accommodation is tight, no matter how far ahead the planning.

we've got all the accomadation sorted (good having mates in the UK) just after info on UK bike shops. I'm starting a CCM resto and want to get my head around some things that not many aussies specialise in.

Local help eh, all good. There is also the classic TT to consider in August where they sometimes go faster and cheat more !!!
There used to be a UK bloke on this forum called flowerpot racing or something like that , try him for local knowledge.

May see you over there I fly out on the 24th for the pre tt in Castletown.
For those who have not been before the ferry is the hard part I booked in January and still could not get back to the mainland until 3 days after the tt has finished.and I am a foot passenger . So doing the post tt as well. Accomodation tent city 10 pounds a night can't wait.

There are a few tent cities. One at Quarterbrige on the Douglas footy club pitch, cross the road to Macca's for breakfast and into the nearby pub on the edge of the track for spectating.
You can catch a train to the mountain to watch the racing also. Ask someone, hope the weather is good . No JOHN Mcguiness he fell at the NW 200 , broken leg, 3 ribs, and 4 vertebrae.
It is possible to listen to the races in AUST via Manx radio, about 9 hr time difference so late evening here.

Mark Cook (PES/ccm britain)is well worth a visit, but a long way up north.I picked up my 3 speed box off him in person a few years ago on the way to scotland.

when you bought your gearbox, how did you get it back to oz? in you luggage? post it to yourself?

Yes, it went all over the place with me on that trip... just part of the luggage, not very big and wouldnt have been keen on posting it..
