Title: Anyone played with cut aways?
Post by: Wasp on April 01, 2017, 08:46:31 am
Has anyone experimented with Mikuni slide Cutaways? I use 2.5 at the moment . What would 2.0 or 3.0 do ?

saw a good Mr Mc Hanic trim a cutaway to clean up a mild richness that needle clip couldn't beat in a dx 200 once

So making the cut away bigger leans it off?  I cant use the file , because all three need to be exactly the same . So I guess going to a number 3 from 2.5 will be the go ?

The cutaway effects the mixture up to about 1/4 throttle. The bigger the cut the leaner it is. It's all to do with the air flow across the top of the needle jet at low throttle openings, with a low cutaway the air is directed more at carb floor increasing the depression across the needle jet which gets fuel flowing earlier.

Of course you can use a file take 0.5 off each use a caliper but make sure you bye a NEW file Fine! then  blue the cutaway measure with vernier caliper.. to double check slide upside down on plate back to back !!!

I just made a holding jig that is mounted to the mill table, tilted the head and zeroed it all in . Did  3 of them in no time   and it turned out good . Testing next and see what the difference is now . I will leave the set up on the mill , just in case I have to take off more .
