Title: 81 RM250X
Post by: Slow Pete on March 18, 2017, 05:11:53 pm
Hi All,
I just replaced my old damaged cases with a pair of new NOS ones.    the clutch shaft feels tight after I tighten all the screws.  Prior to that last tightening all is good.  It is in neutral and everything looks good.   All bearings are pushed right in and I have double checked all the washers etc.    But i noticed the new gasket I bought from CSML is a fair bit thinner than the original.     Would this make that much difference ?

The old gasket is not bad but I would prefer to use the new one ?   I also have some Hyloma gasket goo but as the cases are new I wasn't planning on using it.

Suggestions welcome.

Pete

It could be the gasket thickness Pete ? Making less movement ,
I think they can be over looked at times , For example On my yammie if I don't use the genuine right thickness clutch cover gasket oil from the frame can wet sump my TT500 .

Hey Pete,
Have you tapped the ends of the main shaft and counter shaft  with a soft faced hammer when you are tightening the case screws? If you are and it makes no difference then perhaps you should measure the gasket thickness with a micrometer and tell us what the difference is. A good sealer on the old gasket will be fine if there is a difference.
