?

As far as I know it has to be a side port motor to be eligible which pushes the 76 out.
-
MA do not have a very comprehensive list of carry over models but when queried always say check the list.
-
needs to be side port to be pre75 just change the head to a side port and you should be ok

Isn't the frame different aswell?
-
Swingarm is too.

Forget the if's, but's, maybe's & if you do this.... the simple, concise answer is no, not a carry over model for pre '75.

Agree with you Mick. Which then raises the question of why the later Suzuki TS400 is eligible for Pre75 even though it has a new centre port engine, new frame etc etc exactly the same as the '76 XL350. Just saying!
-
Good point Greg. Although in m opinion ( & under current ruking), it's not a carry over model but perhaps it should be put to the State commissions to see if the bike could be allowed under the follow on rule using the same rationale as the TS400 carry overs, therefore allowing more available bikes into the fold.

I am not suggesting that the XL350 centre port engine models should be eligible for Pre75 or for that matter agree with the current inclusion of ALL TS400 models. It just seems strange that one particular upgraded model which was massively different to previous models is included as a carry over while the other is not even though both models have similar updates.
As for allowing more models into Pre75? What about the loss of eligible '75-77 models moving out of Pre78. I do appreciate that TS400s and for that matter centre port XL350s are not popular for VMX choices but they could be competitive for Classic DT.
Our club has one member currently building a rare XL350 C&J machine. Adding the centre port XL350 to the Pre75 follow on list would, I assume, make that engine ineligible for Pre78? Or do follow on models enjoy inclusion in both periods even though the Pre78 rules specifically excludes Pre75 machines?
Not trying to start WW3 Just asking a question and as you are a Commissioner this seems the perfect place.

not intended to be a hijack - but probably is - what are the thoughts on opening things up so we can ride up a class like we did when actually racing as young fells ie making pre 78 just that and letting me ride my 360B in it instead of just 75, 76 and 77???
-
Completely agree the YZ360/250B is a perfect example and '74 Maicos another. If you don't fiddle with them to fit the 7/4" travel rule they cannot race in Pre75 and you cannot race them in Pre78 (being a '74 model).
I raced in that period and during 1975 & 76 particularly there were heaps of original and modified '74 models and earlier models racing especially at club level.
-
So a pre 75 bike cant race in pre 78?
-
Not according to the MOMS as Pre78 is restricted to '75, '76 & '77 models only.
I would be very surprised if clubs are strict with this rule as it seems a little counter productive. Certainly we have one member who had two Pre75 250s so rode one in Pre75 and the other Pre78 otherwise he could only ride one.
-
gotta a little experience on this subject, when i can, i ride around the back of the pre 78 feild on a 75 TL250 with XL350 centre port engine, weighs a ton, flogs out pissy 33mm fork springs, well i don't jump much anyway ::),but is a lot of fun which is the main point i guess, morally not really pre75, but it's the same basic bike just engineered slightly differently, i have been offered pre75 options at club level events but declined as rules are rules reguardless,(besides not as many in 78 as in 75 ;)),and as 'all in 4 strokes" solves most expectations! :P
