Bad news alert!
While setting the pace in yesterdays stage, Toby Price crashed, broke his femur and had to be airlifted out of the Dakar.
We all know how tough Toby is so no doubt he'll have another stab at the Dakar next year.
-
Yeah I heard this on abc radio this morn. Sure is bad news. As you say, there's always next year...
Still 2 other Aussies in the race (Rod Faggotter is also out) so good luck to them, and all the other competitors.

Pretty unfortunate. Dakar is a bit of a blood sport.

Slovakian rider Ivan Jakes was struck by lightning in 3rd stage. Just got checked his ticker and he is back on bike. Even finished 3rd stage. Some guys need to toughen up bit :)
-
ill bet that was a shock ::)
-
Ivan Jakes has withdrawn at stage 5 (possible electrical problem? :o).

SERIOUSLY ::) ::) ??? Have you or Mr Jakes ever tried riding a motorcycle (not a keyboard) with a broken leg over any sort of distance on any type of surface? I have....and it was the worst 5km of my dirt bike riding life. IDIOT

Does anyone actually read anymore? ;D
I know they are the wrong tank decals for an 84 model but the bike came with 2 sets, might use them (only taped on for looks) and put the money into the rear shock.
Does anyone have a sense of humour anymore? ;D ;D ;D

Actually watching it on SBS at the moment.
Pretty interesting 8)

Good to read that you still have a sense of humour MickD

Yeah. That was last Dakar he finished two stages with broken ankle I think. But some people here know everything. Common Idiots. Haha

bloke I know went to do a cross the alps weekend with a bunch of blokes but not far from mt buller on day 1 he broke his fib or tib. he told the blokes to keep going and he would struggle back to buller which he did. He then decided that rather than be laid up at some outback hospital, he rode the xr 250 back to Bendigo. "wasn't too bad" he said, "bit painfull having to hop in to pay for fuel" tough bastard...

Toby's team mates Sam Sunderland (UK) and Matthias Walkner (Austria) have taken out first and second place respectively. Third went to Gerard Farres Guell (Spain), also on a KTM. So, a clean sweep of the podium for KTM.
The two remaining Aussies have both finished; Smith in 18th overall and Hart in 44th.
