Umm Kenneth a Goldie or Goldstar is a BSA 350/500cc single 4t which was the main stay of BSA lovers for all sorts of competition machines in the 40s, 50s & 60s. Goldstars started as a registrable bike which was used for everything from MX, Short Circuit (Dirt Track), Road Racing, Endurance Racing and even Trials. They were the choice of clubman races all over the world. As far as BSA and even British machines they don't come much more respected unless you move into specialised competition only models like Manx Nortons etc

The Goldwing was Honda's answer to a question that no one outside of the US ever asked. They are now (and have been for almost 30years) made in the USA by Honda America. They started as a 1000cc flat four and currently have a flat 6 cylinder 1800cc engine. They have everything imaginable including reverse gear on some models. They eat miles while the rider literally rides in an armchair.

goldwings crash real hard when they crash...bit like a crashed armchair ::) usually when the rider goes out the back to make a sandwich while cruising the freeway ;D

Are you trying to make me feel old Kenneth? :P Your only a couple of years younger than me ;). I do however remember getting a pillion ride on my uncles Goldie and my Dad always saying it was faster than his Norton.

Queensland Police used Goldstar 650's as their 'Pursuit' fleet. Not that anyone talked like that in the 70's. Any bike would run down an EH or Morris back then.

i used to swan round the goldcoast on a lightning spec A65,helmet law had just come in in Qld,but not across the border,was understandably pulled over on occasion to discuss this anomaly,always remembered "their" battleship grey A65 frames,think ACT cops used them too,(or the one that pulled me over did ;)),oh & i still have a Sth Oz police A65T,but no goldie :-[, :P

I thought the 650s were 'shooting Stars' but apparently that was only the A10s while A65 went to Goldstar?

A10 version was rocket goldstar, nowhere near as common as the 500 single

nah,Goldstars were always top of the pre unit singles,350/500,Rocket Gold star A10's last of their line,shooting stars (starfire)were little unit 250 singles, the star twin was 1st unit 500 twins,then cyclones,& wasps,road rocket A10's morphed into early A65's,quite rare now ,then became the Spitfires,then came Firebirds,Lightnings,(Lightning Clubmans)& Thunderbolts (single carbs) i'm missing one??, :P

The Poms you gotta give it to them they love those great names. As confusing as all get out but much better then CB750KO, K1 etc etc ;D
