Choose another vintage discipline that you would like to get involve in, but money may be stopping you or its hard to break away from
the sport that you are currently involve. for example VMX, trials, road racing, dirt track vinduro.
I would like to get involved in, Historic road racing, but i cant seem to break away from VMX.
-
One of the most friendly, fun events I've participated in was "The Big Chill" road race meeting at Stanthorpe QLD.
Historic road racing, (and thankfully a modern Supermoto class).

would like to have a go at Vinduro and Flat Track :)
-
Flat track or classic road racing :)
-
classic long track or speedway
-
Already have gone to Vinduro from VMX, more bang for the $$$$ spent
-
I have opted for bush riding/touring with mates .Bought a follow on model 1995 DR 650 SE ;) You go where you want , you go when you want ,you stop where and when you want, you go as hard as you want , you spend as much as you want and you go with whom you want . I love it . Should have switched much earlier.
-
would like to have a go at flattrack short circuit grass track etc but i don't have the drive to get organised. unless an event pops up in front of me ill probably keep riding the vinduro's for all the reasons above, good people having a ball on great tracks. just like the old enduros without the score card...no pressure, low cost and good times.
i plan to have a spare wheel for the bbb so i can give the flattrack a run...if i can get organised (now that's the real issue ::))
-
Currently spend a bit of time on the Vic Vinduro circuit, and want to branch into (Vintage) trials.
Hence, the Sherpa resto.
-
Vinduro....or Vintage Adventure trails or whatever you would call it...you know huge tank on a xt 500 down the Birdsville track, over the Tanami desert, then up the Gibb river road that kind of thing.
-
After doing a little vmx switched to vinduro is great....
-
would like to do display rides with the wife on the chair, but been getting the itch again to go back and fly, never did do cross country and 2 seat endorsement, did do tail dragger
so yer would like to hope over a few trees in paddocks

Keeping it "vintage", you'll have to put your tail dragger skills to use in a Tigermoth.
I learned to fly in a 1950s Bell 47. Wooden blades, Franklen engine.
It's all "computers" and digital displays these days.

Ill be keeping it "vintage" Wow I'm impressed! you learnt to fly in the 1950s did fly in Korea?
I had some great times as a sprog one of the instructors was Doc he flew Caribu's
Bell 47B 1945, 157 hp top speed 169 km/h the first helicopter in the world to be officially certified for civilian use (is that the one?)
Ill be keeping at the light end of the scale as money is an issue and no I don't want to fly digital with bells and whistles going off and hearing "terra firma go up" just the wind whistling past is enough going in dead stick ( practicing for out field landings LOL)

Flat track or classic road racing :)
Can probably arrange something for you Bill.
Wouldn't mind a go in a superkart and fanging a MkI or Mk2 Escort looks like a lot of fun if a little expensive. Historic rally would be great but getting my head around listening to pace notes is a bit of a hurdle. These days with 2.4 litre and Warrior 16v heads and all the other bells and whistles Escorts are around the 250hp mark or there is the Honda S2000 engine swap which is about 350hp in a 900kg car ;D

Will probably try vintage trials when I get the frame & swing arm back from the owner of my TY250 after the swing arm has been lengthened, still have my Jarvis replica Sherco but work has gotten in the way of using it in modern stuff the last couple of years
Vinduro looks like fun but I can't see me getting a suitable bike to try it out
-
I jumped into Twinshock Trials a while back on a TY175...
havn't done enough of it for a while but its a hoot!
ride all day on the one bike,
low maintenance,
stop and talk with your mates,
but I am crap at it...
will get out there again this year on a TY250D {which is a pig!}
good fun!
would like to try classic road Racing also...
-
hey tony, I bloke regularily does the harrow Vinduro on a tl 250...gets lots of envious looks on the real steep bits
-
and speed wise the old TL250 isn't bad either - had one as a young fella and on the old flat motocross track used to drift it pretty well :)
-
Vinduro seems to float my boat ATM , more laid back.

I learnt to fly in the '90's in a 1952? Model Bell 47"G". (Makes me old enough thanks!!)
All the "magic numbers" were "60". Made it very easy. 60 knots cruise speed, 60 liters of fuel an hour, and even back then- 60 minutes in an hour. 8)

Isn't that cheating?
I can remember the stories of a enduro set near Wellington over here by a guy on a trials bike that got a lot of moans about the unrealistic average speeds they were expected to mantain, I happen to know the rider in question & he would have been generous setting the speeds compared to what he would have gotten around in on the TY ;D

LOL boy did I read that wrong! so you were in your ninety's back in the fifties ( so that makes you 154 ish ) Youre doing real well for your age
-
I'm making the change as much as I can. No VMX here so I only got to ride on interstate trips.
Now my choices are Vintage trailrides, enduro and trials and a change of bike focus to a PE250B and an RL250.
I'm also looking at a change of living choice and planning a move to probably the Sunshine Coast hinterland in a year or two.
Looking forward to a LOT more riding
Cheers

I've always dreamed of riding/driving the Mt Panorama road circuit at full noise. Such an iconic circuit with such a rich history, it wouldn't really matter to me what I was riding/driving as long as I was racing against similar machinery and could experience the thrill of getting to know and racing that circuit. Targa Tasmania looks good fun too. Not sure if they have a classic class

Targa Tasmania sure does have several Historic classes. A nice 911 Porsche is the go.

Strongly support Vinduro as an alternative activity. In particular, events organised by the VTR team.
The VTR organisers are great folk who have thought long and hard about developing a winning formula which involves leaving your attitude at the gate and being prepared to have a lot of fun with people who pull up beside you on the track and ask "are you OK?". A one camp fire policy guards against cliques developing and allows everyone to gather together at the end of the day to share their experiences of the day's riding. A good sign is the increasing number of families participating in the events (great to see a dad following his daughters around the loop). As mentioned, hot showers and portable toilets allow members to freshen up at the end of the day. Simple rules apply regarding your steed: no rear disc brakes; no upside down front forks; and a headlight (doesn't need to be functioning). Everything from a humble Suzuki ER185 to an exotic Euro thumper can be seen on the loop at any event. In sum, a great place to meet wonderful people seeking to enjoy life in a positive way.
All the best to fellow VTR members for 2017.

With crappy knees and a suspect back it's getting harder to stay motivated for VMX racing. On that note, I am thinking of getting an old rally car.....probably a Dato 1600 or Escort on club rego so I don't have to transport it on a trailer every where I go.
I was given a voucher for an off road rally experience for chrissy and got to do a few laps in a rally prepped WRX and a V8 off road buggy. What a hoot rallying is.

Am Loving Vinduro or Vintage Trail Ride its the way you want to Ride them..
Go for a lap with a few mates stop and have a rest or a laugh at a Mate ..
or Go back to back and just see How many Laps you can Do ...!!!
Or Go out and get a few laps in Hit the Hot Shower before its Beer O'Clock ...
The Go Hard or Take it Easy Attitude That you find is what Make its Fun ..
-
Couldn't agree more Dennis!
-
I agree too, Vinduro is the way to go, its not a race, have fun, my passion for racing has slowing gone, but I find it hard to break away from Vintage motocross, as I love it so much.

post classic road racing
Why you say that, is it because its easy on the body, road racing is much more expensive, entry fees are high.
-
dont know CDBM
never raced bikes on tar
as for expensive have you ever raced cars
i can you tell you no bikes are dearer than cars
both are great fun though
regards al
-
No, I have never raced Cars.
I have only done
1: Trail riding in the state forest, Otway, Grampians,
2: Motocross in Victoria, Western, Northern, Gippsland, South Australia,
3; VMX, Victoria, QLD, NSW, South Australia meeting
4; Rallycross Calder, and a little bit of trials Local.
5: Vinduro : Harrow.
Looking at doing more Vinduro meetings.
-

-
Rallycross was also motocross bikes too, 2.5 kms track, bitumen main straight and corner, and dirt, very big meeting in the early 70`s.
-
still not convinced on bikes involved in rallycross
can you prove it

I have only poked my toe into VMX racing, I am basically to fat and unfit to race at any level in MX, but I am quite happy with the types of "vintage" riding I currently do.
I try to ride a couple of trials each year in the SA Historic White class. I have a Yamaha TY250B, a Honda TL250 and a TL125 so I am spoilt for choice on a solo, plus there's my Mod 199 Bultaco Sherpa 350 sidecar for the times that I can find someone dumb enough to swing for me.
Last year I made my comeback at Reliability Trials here in SA on a 1987 XT250T Yamaha. Even though these are Open events, there is a Pre-1990 class so those of us on old bikes don't compete directly with the Expert or even the Clubman riders. I am happy to bimble around at my pace and finish at the back of the field overall. I treat the events as a well organised trail ride with good medical support, if someone wants to give me a trophy at the end of the day, that's just a bonus. This year I have built up a 1988 TT250 to ride and might even have a go at the 24Hr.
I have ridden Vinduro at Harrow on my Husky 390 Auto, and would love to get across to VIC for a few more Vinduro events, unfortunately other things in my life have gotten in the way over the last couple of years. Maybe this year.
Back in 2008 I built up one of my 1978 SR500 Yamahas to ride at the 2009 DLRA Speedweek up at Lake Gairdner. Never got to ride it as the event was rained out as was the following year. The bike has sat in my shed waiting for me to have another try, unfortunately the Tenere Tragic rides and Speedweek always seem to clash and the Tenere ride has won for the passed 7 years. I need to get up there and give the poor SR a run. I would love to build up a bike that is eligible for the Vintage class, but that requires a whole lot of time, work and money, none of which I have a lot of at the current time.
-
thanks kb171
i stand corrected CDBM
and enjoy the history ftw al

I have raced more vintage off road rc cars than almost any other discipline, heaps of adrenaline on the drivers stand lol. Losi JRX2,Associated RC10 grafites and alloy tubs, Schumacher CAT. YZ10s. So much fun and quite hard to restore and collect parts. Ive done allot of rallycross to in Escorts and geminis and am making a come back in my 1986 corona avante which I have almost finished, Ive fitted a CA18DET so have to run in sports sedan and Ill be on 195 semi slicks.Hope to make some upsets.
-
Geminis you have my attention
i raced bikes 74-78
geminis 84-95
bikes 96- present
