For a while now it's been on our minds that there is a whole community amongst us of 'old dirtbike' restorers who love this sport just as much as us riders and racers do. Some still ride, some not so much. They toil long and hard to bring the old bikes back to life but often don't get out to enjoy or show off their achievements. We thought it was time to give them that opportunity and put a premier 'old dirt bike' event together for NSW where those restorers could come out of their sheds and garages, get some Vitamin D, rub shoulders with the rest of us (perhaps enjoy a cold ale or two) and show us what they got.
Announcing the OzVMX ‘Resto Expo’, a dream weekend for restorers and enthusiasts of old dirt bikes.
Restorers of old dirt bikes, this weekend is a time for you and your works of ‘Moto Art’ to shine. You are the unsung heroes of our great sport. An army of craftsmen in your own right, labouring towards perfection as you caringly clean, repair, paint, polish and assemble beautiful old dirt bikes back to their former glory.
We want you the Restorers to bring your ‘labours of love’ out to sparkle in the Aussie sunshine at ‘Dargle on the Green’ to be appreciated by all of us fans of old dirt bikes. A Show n Shine, Swap Meet, Cruisy Grass Track ride, and Camp Out, all on the banks of the mighty Hawkesbury River, for the whole VMX community to enjoy.
So get the polish out, buff that steed up and join in the fun so we can all have the chance to appreciate your fine work. Let’s start something big, give NSW its own premier old dirt bike event and make the Resto Expo the event on the calendar to show and appreciate these beautifully restored machines.

Well done OZVMX team, hope to come up from Vico if time & funds permit, I like the sound of the cruisy grass track, that should bring out the older steeds that don't seem to be getting catered for nowadays ;) On the opposite end of the spectrum is there a newest model year cut off? :)
-
Smed, we've decided t go to Pre-95. The weekend is planned primarily as a social weekend though with the main purpose for the grass track to be somewhere the restorers can give their bikes a run if they want without the intensity of a modern MX track. It would be great if some of you guys from down South could make it.
Cheers,
Kenneth

I cant see the bit were the topless bar maids serve free beer, you have everything else?

We are very pleased to announce that Ken and the team at VMX Magazine have given their support to the OzVMX Resto Expo and have become our very first sponsor of the event sponsoring the Cruisy Grass Track. Now known as the VMX Magazine Cruisy Grass Track. Thanks to Ken and the team for getting behind this event.

Just a thought?
The cruisy grass track thing?
Will there be say a couple of brief ride brackets set aside for the older retired blokes?
Say if they wanted to throw a leg over and parade their bike, without having to get roostered or deal with a track full of quicker then lightning up and coming wipper-snappers.

We're a step ahead of you Mick. The riding will be exactly that. Separated in brackets so the riders of 'parade bikes' (love that term) can enjoy them selves at their own pace.

This sounds like a very cool event. Wish I could go.

Absolutely Jimson. If you Register and purchase the Rider upgrade you can bring any dirtbike Pre-95 or older and ride it on the Grass Track. You will need a MA license though as the track will be licensed. There is an option on the registration form to purchase a day license which will cover you for both days. Kenneth

We tossed this around and decided we wanted to keep the General Admission fees as low as possible and encourage visitors who just wanted to come and have a look but didn't want to exhibit or ride. So rather than have you pay extra for something your weren't going to use, we split up the pricing into a shopping list where you only select & pay for what you want.
General Admission
The General Admission fee everyone pays as their ticket into the Expo.
1 Day General Admission $20 which includes parking.
2 Day General Admission $50 which includes parking and camping in the unreserved section.
Exhibitor Upgrade
This is a flat fee whether you show 1 bike or 10 and reserves you a 4 x 4mtr Exhibitor spot in the Expo to show your bikes. This fee helps us pay for the trophies and cash prizes. We want to encourage participants to bring their bikes out and show them.
1 Day Exhibitor Upgrade $10
2 Day Exhibitor Upgrade $20
Rider Upgrade
This fee includes the Track Licensing fee and the MNSW Rec Riding permit cost per rider.
1 Day Rider Upgrade $20
2 Day Rider Upgrade $30
MA License Requirements
This event is being run as a MA sanctioned event with rider fees going to MA to cover "every rider, official and others for Personal Accident Insurance and the first $2 Million of risk in a $50 million liability." http://www.motorcycling.com.au/language/en-US/Insurance
If you don't hold a Motorcycling Australia annual license, to be able to ride you will need to purchase a Day License which covers you for both days. $40
Premium Riverbank Campsite Upgrades
This is a flat fee per campsite and there is no limit to how many camp on each 8x4mtr site.
Silver Premium Riverbank Camping in an 8x4mtr spot $40 - (50% Sold by Dec 14)
Silver Premium Riverbank Toy Hauler double spot at the top of each Village - Spot 5&6 $80 - (90% Sold by Dec 14)
Gold Premium Riverbank Camping in an 8x4mtr absolute waterfront spot right at the ends of each Village $100 (70% Sold by Dec 14)
So on the registration page you just select what you want out of each option and the page calculates the total for you.
If anyone needs a hand just give me a call on 0411 639 649.

Will there be any food stalls/catering?
-
Hi Ken
We usually arrive early (when gates first open) at the likes of classic dirt and find a camp spot and peg it out so that me and my mates can camp together. We can have few beers, a fire if allowed and enjoy a great weekend. Will this be the same at this meeting or are the camping spots marked out and more formal like a camping park. It seems like a silly question but it makes the difference between a good weekend and a ( I won't bother next year weekend)
Regards Zane

Hi Zane,
Yes no problem with early arrivals and staking out your campsite in the unreserved camping area. The reserved Riverbank campsites are marked out in horseshoe shaped villages. For early arrivals we'll be taking a $10 per head extra fee at the gate which will be on top of your event registration fee to pay to Dargle to cover camping Friday night. In the unreserved area, the only restrictions will be no camping on the clearly marked access roads through the campsite area and fires are OK. Look forward to having you down there mate.

8 weeks to go today!
Selling at the SWAP MEET is included in your show registration fee as is unreserved camping if you pay the 2 day fee.
Load up the ute, the trailer, the truck and cash in!
Note to those who plan to show bikes, at the rear of your allocated Show Spot will be your spot for the Swap Meet. You will be able to do both from the one location.

Thanks to our very own Damo Jay Power and his business Goldstar Repairs for getting behind the Expo and sponsoring the award all restorers want, 'Best Resto in Show'! One thing is for sure, with the quality of Damo's work, the chances are that he will be handing the trophy over to one of his clients. Thanks for the support Damo

Well who went and what did you think of the weekend? I enjoyed the whole thing, great location, fabulous weather, heaps of really cool bikes and plenty of track time for those who wanted to have a ride. The band on the Saturday night was good and there was plenty of good company for a drink or 3. Managed to pick up a couple of nice parts and magazines and caught up with some mates I hadn't seen for zonks. So all up I had a top weekend and I think Kenneth has done a great job of organizing the event especially considering it's the first. I say top marks for a job well done.
