Title: 1981 Maico Fork Service Questions.
Post by: peely_14 on October 15, 2016, 01:08:02 pm
Hi fellow Maico enthusiasts this is a post that I have been sent from the old man, who is still awaiting access to the forum so I have posted it on his behalf. Thanks.

It is time to service my 1981 Maico forks after some handy tips already!
What is the best technique and tools to use to remove the aluminum Bush f. damper (p/n 6458) from the Damper tube (p/n 6442) without damaging the aluminum Bush ?

Who provides the best service on re chroming  fork tubes at a reasonable price ?

Is there any suggestions or pit falls I need to look out for during the service?

Thanks Phil

What is your old man's name? There are some requests where they haven't bothered to fill out all the questions. I  had to delete a member this week who had filled them out pretty convincingly then started approaching another member about $5 Mill he had stashed in Ghana!

Bottom Damper Bushes.    Do you need to remove them?. Check Fork tube bushes for ware. Get new ones from VMX Service Holland if needed.

Also Fork Seals Ariete Best you can buy. . Also from VMX Service.  Use a good 10 w  Fork oil and 7w if to Heavy. Fork Springs if sagged or Pro rider replace.                                                                                                                              Experiment with the air Pressure. Also OIL LEVEL.
You must have a good Fork Air Gauge.   NOT A TYRE PRESSURE GAUGE. Replace O rings in Fork Caps. Do not alter Forks except for mods in Maico Service Bullitions.

We have used a Hard Chroming Service in South Australia Many years ago. They where very good.  Do not know Address or Name of Company. Walter from YSS may have the information.
