Bell helmets to be rereleasing Moto3 in 2017, in red, black, yellow, orange, white, titanium and a multi coloured black base. price around $399 i think...
-
Christ, I hope they weigh a lot less than the old ones.... my neck is still sore from carting them around the milledge series enduros...
-
Got any pics and are they being imported to Australia? I heard that they will have ECE 22.05 approval which is now acceptable for use on public roads in Australia.
-
i've just seen that some shops are advertising available now, not 100% sure they are available off the shelf but if not, they wont be far away. Fibreglass /composite shell, removable washable liner, CE certified.
-
I contacted Bell direct and they advised available this month - the 2017 brochure has pictures and colours.
-
I still have an original in the box , i wore it once 40 yrs ago and decided it was heavy and claustrophobic.
I have a new Bell open face helmet, looks the part but i had a huge crash in it back in April , i was out cold for a number of minutes . I am still feeling the effects of that crash enough to have stopped competitive riding . No physical injuries to speak of but it really screwed my head , the polystyrene has cracked inside and the helmet did its job to a point .
However it is a relatively cheap Helmet built to a price , i imagine the replica moto 3 will be the same .
I prefer open face helmets always have done . I used to buy Shoei RJ open face helmets but they changed the shape and i dont like the new ones .
I wish i was wearing my Shoei when i crashed though .
My point is they might look cool and meet stds but they will probably be built to a much lower spec than a decent helmet .
You only got one head , and mine is currently Fuct . it might have been a different story in an Arai or Shoei :-\
Buy one for show but dont risk your canister by racing in a budget built (probably not budget priced ) helmet
-
Saw this, this morning. Will be interesting to see what the construction is like

Q "You only got one head , and mine is currently Fuct . it might have been a different story in an Arai or Shoei :-\"
Remember the old Bell adverts? "If you have a $10 head, wear a $10 helmet..."
Or the axiom: "If you are thinking about skimping on a helmet, think about what you put in it!"
I've always been an Arai road helmet buyer.
Had Arai, Bell (original Moto3) AGV, Aeroh (current MX), Shoei (current ADV) and a few "plastic cheapies" :o, off road.
The subject "re-issue Moto 3" looks like a high quality rig, but my next off road lid is likely to be either a 6D or MIPS ? Equipped Bell or Fox. I think the extra protection from rotational force trumps even the super lightweight of the Aeroh, just, maybe. Love the super light weight Aeroh

You'll have to be our official ozvmx Bell Moto III pinup boy then Ian and provide your review.

The Bell Moto III did not come out in 1971 as stated on the link Kenneth put up. The original Bell Moto Star was about 1974/5 in Australia from memory the Moto III was about 1981 would be my guess.
1971 was Bell's first motorcycle specific range. I bought the original Moto Star in early 1976 after a mate of mine smashed his face on the cross bar of an RM125S. Bought a Moto III in early 80's
This is Cycle Worlds article back in April This year

Moto 3 was available in the 1979 Malcolm Smith catalogue
-
I'm going to hang out for the Moto 4 ;D
-
A modern construction Moto 4 for me too . Nice big opening for your googles, plenty of room to breath - still got my old one on the shelf - heavy but.
-
nah - can remember a Bell Moto 3 at my local Honda store either 78/79 when I bought my first CR???? I think???
Iain - what did they charge you and when did they say available?
-
LWC82PE - open up dirt helmets - second row first helmet.
-

Yep. A modern Moto4 or 5 would get my money, but the 3 doesn't excite me at all.
-
All i can find is this

No brochure????
-
I had the Bell Moto Star then the Bell Moto 3, I just hope the new one is a lot better than the old ones, on saying that if they have modern inards and fits my noggin I would luv one, so will wait and see anyway more work acholic than a rider there alone a racer but still build stuff, so might as well look the part as a feature rider
-
Worth buying just for the fact that it might be the only helmet in a range of plain solid colours. Most modern riding gear looks like its covered in clown vomit.

Ouch Bill.....Lucky you can't remember how the weeds taste! Seriously, all the best mate. Concussions are no fun at all.

Shit Bill what happened Mate, hope ya noggin comes good, all the best

many moons ago, I used to ride with a classic "autumn leaves" rider.. ashe got better bikes, we changed to "branch" as he started falling harder. He was riding a dt 175 behind me 1 day, when I was passed by the tacho cover ???. looking back I saw the usual dust cloud and a tangle of legs and arms and motorbike. he had hit an angled tree root without care and the wheel turned left and threw him on the ground on his side along with the bike so hard the tacho cover pinged into the stratosphere and whistled past my ear. the point of this ramble is ol mate was wearing an open face helmet and suffered spectacular concussion. he had no idea who what or where... I purchased a full face asap...

Anyone know where they are made? I was lookign at a 2016 Bell classic style open face model (AS approved) and it said made in China by MHR helmets for Bell.

???? That does not tell me anything but for almost $500 you would have to think the new Moto 3 is not made in China...... maybe only the lower end models are?

Its all in a name.
BELL's auto racing unique helmets line includes many different models, specifically designed for each type of car racing and being at the edge of technology. Since the 1980's, BELL has pioneered an outstanding number of innovations in all areas of modern helmetry: lightweight composite materials shells, ventilation systems, advanced aerodynamic designs, fog free shields, and the list is very long ...
In November 2001, Bell Sports sold the rights to use the Bell name for automobile helmets to two new entities: BELL Racing USA (for North and South America + New Zealand) and BELL Racing Europe (for Europe, Asia and Africa) located near Brussels, Belgium. Both BELL Racing US and BELL Racing Europe operate as two totally independent companies under license from Bell Sports Inc; each having their own Research and Development programs and product line adapted to their individual markets.
In June 2010 Bell Racing Europe acquired Bell Racing USA, reuniting the Auto Racing activity again under common ownership.
BELL now produces automobile racing helmets using the latest, state of the art, equipment and technologies which are available worldwide.
BELL Racing engineers operate a Racing Service and a Research & Development program with the best drivers in Formula One and other top professional drivers, thus ensuring that BELL remains the undisputed world leader in automobile racing helmets.
