Guys - does anyone know how to identify a Yamaha part by it's serial number - not part number. I have an AIR shock for the YZ360B - Yamaha don't recognise it but are still chasing for me and it is not a listed part anywhere we can see - serial number is 110581?
thanks
Rossco

Dont yamaha use the first few digits of the model code in the part numbers? perhaps non Jen You Wine?
-
Generally if the part is made by Yamaha it will have some kind of identifying/part number cast into it. If the part was outsourced then the number may not relate to anything Yamaha.
Me thinks....

Rossco,
Can you send me a picture please. you have my details oddly.

There were aftermarket air-spring conversions for early Monos. The one I have has a red painted aluminium cover over a rubber bladder (I think - I haven't pulled it apart).

For some reason I can no longer insert images into the forum - or use any of the icon shortcuts - but here are a couple of pictures for those interested enough to have a look.
cheers

This 1 Ross? Definitely something a bit out of the ordinary you have there

Rossco the air springs were not Yamaha . there were 2 types a alloy cylinder with a air v/v as you have pictured and a bladder type as Nathan has said . one was a Fox and I forget the other make .
-
Iain - I did not think Fox were doing anything in 1974? Way too early for them?
-
Hi Gents
Reeder and Girling both made gas springs, any one have pictures to help Rossco out?
Fox were making spring coil / oil shocks in the early to mid seventies but not for Yamaha mono shocks.

Sorry try Boge or Moholland .
-
It was not a complete monoshock the air spring was a after market kit that fitted on top of the Yamaha mono . I remember them but I'm stuffed if I can remember their name .

The Fox emulsion shocks came out in 1975
Single chamber Fox air shocks 1975
Dual air chamber Fox air shocks 1976
Fox airs were still in prototype/testing in 74

you need to realize that many products came out a few years later after a new model bike. So in 1976 or 77 or when ever you could buy suspension improvement parts for a 73 or 74 model bike for example. It does not mean they are legal in todays pre 75 class though.
-
Oops my bad. but i do remember them and i also remember one of the guys who i cant remember his name but he had a tricked out suspension back when I wasnt so grey and running around Failford track and its a very foggy memory from back then but Im fairly sure i thought it was weird that a tyre manufacturer made suspension bits for MX bikes. It was a tyre brand that dont do bike tyres and I think it was firestone.

Ottows Werks may have done something for Yamaha monos. I know they did replacement internals for the 76 Yamaha air forks where they sold different pistons for the canisters on top of the forks.
-
What you've got is the same/very similar to the one I have. Will compare/take photos when I get home.

just received an email this morning from Thor Lawson - looks Like Gibbsy might be on a winner as Thor thinks it is an aftermarket Reeder set up also.
