When did 38mm Marzocchi forks come out and on what model MX/enduro bikes? A need a set of 38mm clamps and would prefer them to be available pre 78. What should i look for? KTM, Canam, Husky? Are there options for solid bar mounts and rubber mounts straight up, laid back?
I am seeing a lot of conflicting info on here with regard to when 38mm Marzocchis came out. Some say KTM had them on 77 models, others say KTM were 35mm and only went to 38mm on 78 models. I dont know what is correct.

The very first 38mm marzocchi MX forks were available on the market in '76 with aluminium lower legs and magnesium legs were available in '77. They were fitted to the 97 or so Puch MC250 / 400 works replica bikes. They were also fitted to late production '77 KTM MC400 MC5s apparently.
The '77 versions had rear swept solid handlebar mounts rubber mounts were available around '79/80.

ive got a 76 popular cycling mag with an article on them as being available for aftermarket sale. penton and husky riders were using them.

OK i saw that but sometimes 'by late 77' that would mean that its a 78 model as 78 models would have been out in late 78.
Has anyone got a photo of what the exact triple clamps look like as there are a number of different ones out there. I have seen som with 1 pinch bolt on top clamp and others with 2 pinch bolts but i think 2 pinch bolts (allens) is 1980 Canam?
-
I have some 38 mm Marzhocchis that I bought off a forum member. They came with some triples that came off I think a 77 KTM. I can send a photo if it will help. Cheers Jerry PS if you need to rebuild forks Flower Pot Ben on here has heaps of spares appropriately priced and a pleasure to deal with.

Thanks. So these have just 1 10mm? pinch bolt at the top. Probably will be after this type.
Is that big hole in the bottom clamp for a steering lock?

I will probably wait to see if my forks ever arrive anyway. Of course it would be so much easier if i could find some Simons clamps too.
So this type was not around in 77 or earlier?

Not sure about that hole in the lower clamp as the set I have do not have it
-
Bultaco had 38 mm in 76 , went back to 35 in 77 for the weight saving.
-
Bultaco forks were all Betor brand.Jim Pomeroy and others used various Marshocchi forks at different times, but Betors were standard.
-
To the best of my knowledge they were not standard on KTM's in 77 , I have both 77 and 78 in the shed. I would not use them on Pre 78 race bike. The 77 YZ fork is probably better and is 38.

Yes but he is after 38mm clamps so he can fit Simons forks. Wouldn't matter if they were Betor would it? Montesa VB s also had 38mm in 77

yes but you would have to sleeve done the bottom clamp from the flared Yamaha stem .

I should read the post more carefully ! The Bultaco 38's were one year only, can be hard to find. They have a parallel handlebar mount.
-
Yeah i certainly don't want to have to find more hard to get parts LOL. I will just have to wait for a nice set to turn up at a good price. Thanks guys.

I have a set of 38mm Marzocchi clamps sitting on the shelf.

Montesa used 35mm Marzocchi's in 77' and 78'. Used the 38mm Marzocchi's in 79', 80 and 81.
-
I believe only Montesa 414's, VG250 & H7's used 38mm.
