Caps, I am restoring a 250j and am having woes trying to find an original rear wheel, brake backing plate, torsion rod, axle spacers etc. can you help with photo's of what the original items should look like? I have found a rear hub which the owner claims is to fit a 250j but it has 3R4 01 cast into it which i believe is a YZ 250 G number (at least the 3R4 anyway) same with the backing plate. is there an axle spacer on the brake side or does the backing plate fit up against the chain adjuster? Also I need to know the axle diameter and internal drum dimension.  I'm not sure what wheel was fitted to the bike i bought, but it has a 17" rim and what appears to be a 4V4 (IT/YZ-1981) hub and some silver anodised brake plate (all corroded within an inch of thier lives) and axle spacers fashioned from pipe- a real bitsa. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. If your still keen on parting out your 250 I would be interested in the wheel and associated hardware.

Vandy,
about the only part i see that would be compatable with the 125 and the 250 is the brake lever on the rear brake.

125's had a right side drive and 250's and 490's had a left side drive........I think.

Not so much the pedal Vandy, the lever that attaches to the brake cam in the rear hub.

Cheers Vandy, I had a 125J which was a bit of a pain to start as i recall, but it handled and jumped like a dream, I always wanted a 250J after that bike, and now I have one - I RULE. Are you still finding a home for the 125 you stripped? I guess I didn't get back to you about the steering, but as I was informed that the parts were not a straight up fit on my 250, I suppose that option wasn't suitable anyways, best the bits go to someone who can use em.
