Title: Ignition system for a 75 CCM
Post by: Rosco86 on August 16, 2016, 08:19:36 pm
Need to fit an ignition system to a CCM 75 bottom end with the flat "ribbed" left hand side side cover. Early models with the twin big circles had room to put something like a HPI system on the shaft but this can't be done unless resplitting the motor, longer journal and new side over purchased. Have a magic box but also looking at alternatives as you just don't know when the magic box runs out of oomph. Thoughts?

do you know any sparkies or good with electrics?

what about modify the interspan magic box socket for an external small battery, then you can just swap batteries out? just a thought i was toying with some years ago when the encased batteries in mine failed.

If you have the flat left side cover, then you will have the shortened left crank stub. There is not usually enough there to mount a trigger system.
Better to use the Interspan ignition. This has the trigger mounted on the end of the cam. The new clubman boxes will do a minimum of 4.5 hours of running. The new one I have just fitted to my 73 is supposed to exceed that by at least 1.5 hours. The new ones also come with a reduced trigger RPM for super easy (read lazy) starting. They also have new LED's to show the current battery state and to let you know when fully charged. Expensive .... yes ! But they are the best.
