The 2016 Harrow 100 Vinduro will be held on the weekend of July 30 – 31.
This year the event will feature a short and long option as part of the main event on the Sunday, and there'll be a shorter practice track available on private property on Saturday (only). No riding allowed on the main course on Saturday, and no riding on the practice track on Sunday.
Just like previous years, you can enter as a three man team, or individually. There’ll also be a ‘State of Origin’ theme with state/territory teams being judged against a variety of criteria to see which one will be crowned king!
If you are interested in participating in one of the state/territory teams, please contact VERi Club Secretary Peter Drakeford. Please note that places are limited for the State of Origin challenge.
Keep checking our website and Facebook page for updates, and feel free to post comments and questions here.
The entry form has been dispatched via email, and will be available to download from the VERi website very soon.
We look forward to seeing as many old dirt bike fans as possible at Harrow!

rego still required? (im assuming so but putting it out for those wondering ::) )
From the email sent out with the application...
"Please note that the MA one day recreational license is only required if you are riding an unregistered bike on Saturday at the practice track, registered bikes/licensed riders do not require a one day MA licence. All bikes taking part on Sunday must be registered and riders licensed as some public roads are used."
-
Getting ready all ready for this one ,some of the Canberra guys are coming again and just with the practice what's the bike requirement
-
and just with the practice what's the bike requirement
Pre 85. If it's the same registered bike you'll be riding on Sunday then no other requirements. If bike isn't registered you'll need a one day MA rec licence to ride it on Saturday, no unreg bikes allowed on Sunday. Motocrossers are ok for practice track on Saturday, but chuck some lights on it so it looks the part.

Okay, We've got a Qld team together. 22hr drive what's not to like.

The 22 hour drive but you will love the ride ;)

So its not really a 2 day event anymore.

I'm sure we will.

Never was! The format is as the earlier events ran - you get a 'practice' ride on the Saturday but the main event is the Sunday. So you still get 2 days on the bike!

I'm sure we will.
At least there'll be relief drivers available in the car ..........

Wow, that's commitment!

After hearing about it at numerous VTR events this is on my bucket list and I was thinking of planning and preparing a bike especially for next year but after seeing this thread pop up It got me wondering if I can make it happen this year. ;) and although I could travel there by myself I was thinking is there anyone passing through Albury on their way that might have room for another bike and passenger? Obviously I would be happy to chip in for fuel costs.
As far as bike is concerned I would be taking my 81' XL500s which I now have on NSW historic rego.

A note about camping at the Harrow 100 Vinduro:
The camping fee of $10 listed on the entry form is per person, per night.
That means if you are staying for more than one night, or will have additional people camping with you, you need to pay accordingly.
If you have already paid for your entry, and need to pay for additional nights or persons, please do so when you sign on at the event.
VERi also asks that all people attending the event and camping make payment to VERi, not the cafe or other outlets in town.

Any word on what minute you start on...
Yep, as Dennis points out you can check out a provisional entry list at the VERi website. Actual start order on the day may not be exactly the same, but should be more or less as shown. There's a list of state teams that we have thus far on there now too.

I have not been before so I am really looking forward to this one. :D Just hope the bike is ready in time as due to unforeseen circumstances the XL500 is currently without a counter shaft seal. It was supposed to turn up today but no joy so will be cutting it fine. Hopefully it turns up tomorrow or I will be up the creek without a bike. :(

There's an up-to-date (well, sort of) entry list on the VERi website. It's a work-in-progress as we are still accepting entries via email, people are changing stuff, sending in incomplete forms, etc, etc. The latest State of Origin details are there too, again we just need to finalise some details.
Note to my self ...Keep out of Pub ...
So, I'll see you in the pub then Dennis! ;)
Sounds like some people are about to commence the journey to Harrow, so travel safely everyone (especially this guy...)

That car is illegal! You're not allowed to have trinkets hanging from the inside rear vision mirror. It obstructs your view.
Mark and I will be staying with friends in Wodonga tonight, then on to Harrow tomorrow. See you at Johnny Park!

Tie these down and off we got in the morning.

Heaps of riders made use of the natural terrain mx track today, which was great to see. We're all hoping that the weather holds out for tomorrow...

When I met up with Team AMTRA mate Darren at Ballan Maccas, it was cold. We saddled up and headed West into some nasty looking clouds and ever increasing rain. We asked ourselves on several occasions, at what point are we turning around and giving this the kibosh? Fortunately, we didn't and 10 minutes out of Harrow, the rain stopped and we arrived amid a glow of glorious sunshine. We took advantage of this and quickly set-up camp (in case the weather changed it's mind!)

After catch-ups and several beers, we headed to the pub (for more catch-ups and beers), then hung around for dinner and called it a night around 10:30.
Saturday morning was a leisurely wake up and breakfast, before getting bikes and gear ready for the 'practice' session. This consisted of a grass scramble/MX track on a near-by property. Our posse was one of the first to get there, so with a few others on the track, we cut loose and had a blast. However, as more and more bikes entered the circuit, the track got more and more cut up and the natural culverts became wider and deeper and they created some serious concerns for many gentlemens' vegetables!

After the practice session, we were supposed to have our bikes impounded by 5:00, but someone had the great idea of taking them all up and parking them in the main street of Harrow for a pic. I'd had (as had many others), a little too much bible juice, so my bike didn't get there, but plenty did!

After this, it was back to camp to make ourselves beautiful for the VERi AGM and annual Harrow Dinner. We all opted for a relatively early night to make sure we were in tip-top form for the main event tomorrow.

A bit (lot) of rain fell overnight, so we woke to a cold and foggy morning. The bikes in the park ferme looked as cold as we felt! The usual riders briefing was had, warnings were given and advise espoused before the first bikes were given their order to go. as usual, Team AMTRA lined up and Pat took off, never to be seen again. Darren and I had arranged to meet up the other guys in our group, (Mark and Ashley from Team F.B.I and Geoff the Independent Member from Bendigo) so off we went and stuck together for the whole day.

The course started with some tight, sandy single track (all on private property), which was a great way to get warmed up. We then had a continually changing array of open hilly paddocks with steep up and downs (all wet and slippery), lots of boggy creek crossings and generally wet areas. The terrain hadn't seen much rain for a while, and it was now quite water-logged. We dodged trees, rocks, dead animals, bogs slippery logs and all manner of other obstacles. Some sections were grippy and fast, others were treacherously slippery and not so fast, but all in all a good fun ride. The main loop was 90ks long, and as I always say, 90ks on one of these old girls feels a lot more than a modern bike, so after one loop, we were quite happy to call it a day.

Gold medals were awarded to anyone who completed a full loop and there were plenty that didn't!

The event attracted about 160 riders, with various marques being represented. XRs have surpassed ITs as the most common bike. I'm happy to say that the widow-maker performed faultlessly all day and it was great to spend the day riding with Daz. I have no idea how Pat went cos we didn't see him till later in the afternoon! No doubt, more footage and pics will appear in the coming days.
Harrow 2016, done and (not so) dusted!
-
that dodgy creek crossing claimed a few bikes..after the can am 4wheeler and 6 blokes were required to drag the ol kato out, the course was changed!
-
well yesterday was perfect and after running the long lap or short lap clip board for a while, I went round the long lap for a spin.. the sand was great, and then it turned to poo! I got to the first fence ramp in time to see ol mate dragging his bike under the fence?? then I saw the marks on the ramp :o..i skull dragged the husky under the fence... while it was stuck under there another punter arrived and attacked the ramp only to bury the front wheel in the deep hole and spread himself over the cross brace.. he went round again and managed to get the wheel up and got over... after struggling around avoiding all the good bog holes. I came to the creek with the big washout in it...they had just dragged 1 bloke out and he had been totally under.. and the two time ramp specialist was buried up to the tank! it was decided to re route the course. I helped a mate get through the pooiest bits and I couldn't believe how greasy and slippery those tracks were. amazing. (having 25 psi in the rear tyre didn't help). after getting back to the fuel dump it was time to pull the arrows down so away we went again. got over the ramp with a careful angled attack (phew) then promptly got both of us stuck up to the arse around the corner... when we got to the greasy tracks, they were totally dry and starting to go hard..amazing :). got back to camp at 6 having cleared the course.
spent today pulling the ramps down and packing up signs etc. just as we drove to the tricky ramp it bucketed down, serious rain for 15 mins or so then cleared so we hightailed to the ramp driving through a virtual river to make it through, the water cascading through the crops was truly amazing. we disassembled the ramp, packed it on to the rhino and headed back to lachies ute and it started raining again just as we were loading it up but didn't get to wet.... then on the way to the last two ramps, I bogged lachies rodeo to the arse :-\so with no reception, I headed of on a 3k walk to get assistance. it popped out easily enough and we got the ramps all loaded up and back to the storage yard. just thought I would let you know the circus that goes on to bring you all that excellent ride 8)

I was a first time Harrow vinduroer, what a blast. It turned out to be a war of attrition for a lot of riders. I have a crook hip & pretty much can't get on or off a bike without some sort of step to stand on & that's where the fun began for me. Ran up the behind of a few riders & stalled, had to somehow get off the bike, start the bike, then get back on, ended up pushing a fair distance a few times looking for rocks & logs (few & far between in the places I got stuck). Thanks to the two sweep riders who held my bike for me while I re-mounted on a few occasions. I went off the bike a few times, over the bars, sideways & the best one was a flip on the nasty creek crossing which saw me do a backward header into the creek & go completely under water (yep, that was me in 85 Husky's story). Still it was a hell fun event & do-able even for a busted, fat, old, bald prick like me. The 400 Husky was the perfect bike for the occasion, real easy to use grunt, just put it in third & saw away at the endless bogs & off camber hills. The black sand single trail & fire trail were awesome. I made it round a full loop albeit with a bit of help from the assistants, many thanks again. One thing I learned for the better riders is that they pick much better lines & miss most of the nasty stuff.

Best course so far thanks to all the hard work to the crew in setting up and cleaning up I know how much it takes to do . Best weekend I've had on and off the the track with team vtr, thanks to Dennis M and Bill C for lugging me and bikes down and back .
The IT run awesome all day and for the first time I didn't loose my brakes :D and was able to carve up the special test section . If you haven't done a Harrow pull out your bucket list and add it to . Thanks again and look forward to seeing the team results Cheers Ek

Hey big k, I saw that flip of yours , after pulling and pushing a few bikes out I stood at the top of the hill and watched. Felt a bit guilty but I'd done my bit. Great to see you had a go at it.
My first time also and what a blast.

Another great weekend at Harrow.
This is my first video with a helmet camera of the Saturday track following Serge (Mr Girth ;D) around the track on his PE. The camera angle is a bit low.

What a great ride!
I had a ball on the XT250. The course was super-wet in places, but heaps of fun, and brilliantly set out. I clipped a tree in the 'special test' and my little finger ached for teh rest of the day. Not long after that I got a heap of wire wrapped around the back wheel, but it was easy enough to get rid of. I only got bogged once, but it took three of us to get the XT out of the slop. It was about where the KDX is parked in the pic below. I paid my dues by hanging around and helping a couple of other bikes through before setting off. A little while later I helped a guy lift an XR that had fallen over on a hill upside down. Later I stopped and loaned a brake lever to a rider in need. Harrow is an adventure man, you never know what to expect around each corner!

After completing a long loop I decided to head out for a short loop. 170 or so bikes had made their mark, but the course was still thoroughly ridable. At the fuel dump I met up with my CT125/185 riding mates (one of whom flew down from Brisbane to ride Harrow after a 20 year absence from dirt bike riding) and we returned to base at a relaxed pace together.
It's always great to catch up with people, and make new friends at Harrow too. The countless conversations, jokes and shared experiences are part of the magic.

Our- State of origin team "Victoria's Better" Harrow weekend had a great come back to the little town of Harrow after a year away.
We spent Saturday carefully running in my bike- 1982 WR430 Husky and Rob's 1980 Suzuki PE250 after both bikes getting a fresh can of compression earlier in the week.
Sunday came around and we were the 3rd team to leave on the frosty and foggy morning. Being in the first group of riders the bog holes weren't too bad, the special test was pretty tricky to follow. I got a bit over excited on the open sections and guess what, i seized the husky again :'( Again i let it cool down and waited for the old man to catch up and then got a push start and she fired back into life. So from there on in i short sifted the husky and took it pretty easy.
We finished the first BIG lap and came back into the camping ground to have a feed and do some running repairs. I raised the needle on the husky and added a bit more oil to the fuel even though i was already running at 25:1 So we lost a bit of time doing all of this.
The second BIG lap was easier in spots and a lot harder in others. Poor Dad buried the DR400 and took 3 of us to free it in one hole.
Then Rob managed to smack a rock strait into his rear chain guide and bend it to the point it was pushing the chain off the rear sprocket. So we lost a bit more time straitening that out.
We all managed to finish 2 laps each of the large loop and giving us a total of 8 laps for our state of origin team- Not sure how we didn't win this?
Anyway we then stayed Sunday night and enjoyed a few more beers and BBQ.
Here's a bit of YouTube footage with a couple of pictures of the fun and games at the end of it, enjoy.
Cheers Dewy.

Well done.
Apparently points were allocated for a number of criteria. For example, Queensland picked up extra points due to the distance they travelled to the event.

perfect shot with the mud...dead centre

Any results yet :)

The State of Origin thing is first and foremost a bit of fun, just like the whole event. Remember it's non-competitive, so having a trophy based solely on performance wouldn't really be appropriate.
The committee took a lot of factors into consideration, not just lap tallies. For example, as a judge I was very impressed by the fact that the Queensland team wore ties to dinner on Saturday night. 8)
What I was NOT impressed with was the amateurish attempts at bribery. Seriously, if you're gonna do the brown paper bag thing, do it properly! One team passed on a bag that had already had the cash pilfered and was empty (double corruption?); while a NSW team slipped me a brown paper bag with something inside that I can't describe on a family oriented site (no idea how they got that in there)! ;D
Any results yet
Yep. The Tolmie Beards won the club team award. The State of Origin went to the ACT, with Queensland a close second.

Not a problem TEX, We all know the power the ACT have on getting things there way. LOL. No hats off to them it was a huge effort to get 4 bikes and riders around the BIG lap course. We will hopefully see you all at Castella at the end of the year.
On another note YouTube has seemed to of done something screwy with my Harrow movie? It's meant to be about 20 minutes long. But stops at around 8 Minutes area? Anyway I've deleted the first 8 minutes and will try uploading the last half as a separate movie.
Cheers Ryan
Link to Part 2 of my footage with the annoying bit of mud stuck on the lens. There's some good pictures at the end of the movie if you want to skip the rest of the special test section.

All I wanted to know was how you managed to keep all of the waterlogged icy grass sections on the top of the hills, and why the water didnt run to the bottom of the hills.
Top weekend, good company, bloody tough ride but I made a lap with no rear brake from about 1/4 of the way through, and a couple of 5 cent sized holes in the pipe of my IT400 from about 1/3 of the way round.
Still goes though.
