Title: Wanted CR250 82/83/84 head and barrel
Post by: DJPresto on June 28, 2016, 09:36:07 am
Does anyone have an 82 to 84 CR250 head and barrel they are willing to part with? I'm looking at converting my 1985 WR240 LC for evo class. Thanks Dave

The '84 CR250 Husky is water cooled and I am assuming you want an air cooled top end . I will have a look through my stash and see if I have one surplus to my requirements . When you say that you have an '85 WR250 that you want to use in Evo , I take it that it is a twin shock , water cooled model ? You may run into trouble fitting the air cooled top end , because the liquid cooled cylinder has a centre exhaust port exit , where the air cooled cylinder has a side port exhaust exit and the frames are different to suit the different pipe configuration .

Yeah it seems pretty bizarre that I couldn't run the liquid cooling since its a twin shock bike. I very much doubt in current race formats with short races that the liquid cooling would benefit. I'm sure there's plenty of aircooled 250s that would fly past my bike.

Yep the centre port is an issue. It would be a crime to part it out just because it doesn't fit with the rules.

Just run it in pre 85...a fast rider will always beat a slow rider on a better bike....

Not bizarre at all that you can't ride it in EVO, as the EVO basics are no liquid cooling, no linkage & drum brakes. Unfortunately your bike falls into pre '90 class. Some clubs will let it sneak through in pre '85 though, but definitely not an EVO bike. The conversion you propose would be like taking to yourself with the rough end of a pineapple, not much if any fun. The bike model you have are good things.

I'm pretty certain it would pass Pre85

I would expect that it would pass for pre '85 as well , as it is pretty much a carry over model from an '84 CR250 (only with shorter suspension and different gearbox ratios ) .

I'm pretty sure the twin shock liquid cooled bikes are 84.5 models.
85 models were single shock bikes (WR/XC - drum brakes, CR - Disc)
Technicalities, technicalities........speak with your local club.
Race what ever class they let you in and have fun....
Please don't destroy a nice bike...

Oh I wont be destroying it. It might go back on the market as it needs quiet a few bits. It certainly isn't a complete bike and def not rideable.
