Title: DG 125 HEAD
Post by: crossedup2 on June 04, 2016, 09:52:40 pm
Hi All

What year did DG heads become available for yamaha YZ125's? I'm  guessing 1976 but can anyone firm that date.

1975 DG catalogue lists them for YZ125. From what i am reading they would be the cast 9 fin type. You could also buy blank heads that time too. I dont have a 74 DG catalogue. DG did make porcupine heads as well. These were introduced in 76. (they are not in 75 catalogue)
In 1976 they introduced the 17 fin radial head for YZ125. These were extruded/forged from solid bar of aluminium.
77 catalogue still only lists 17 fin for YZ125
Gold annodised type is first mentioned in 1977.

What they are listed/advertised for, what they are selling for and what they are worth are all different things. I am seeing a lot of stuff all the time now where sellers are trying to get prices for items or bikes they may have been able to get 3 or 5 years ago but not now, going unsold and only eventually sell after reducing price and relisting several times. There's a lot of 'testing the water'  & 'putting the feelers out' going on too. I guess there's no harm in staring high and being optimistic though.
