Hi all I am just about to join the honda club this week when I pick up my new purchase being a hond XR75 78 mod.,
Just been sifting the net and wondering does anyone make repro frame kits for these bikes?? Like the DG frame or even just the DG style swingarm??
I have found a good site for the engine side of things but yet again does anyone repro or have a DG pipe for the XR75.
I wanting to do a really nice period race set-up of this great mini bike, and any help would be great.
Cheers
Tom

Tom.
You can spend a mint or do as I did and build your own swingarm.
-
As well your own pipe.
-
Look ok, but I am after after the real macoy or I will just do a mint standard resto.
Does anyone have any lead on the realy macoy or can point me in the right direction of where some of the trick parts for these beast may lie??
Cheers

Last DG arm (No frames I know of around , except maybe a Van Tech and do you want to pay $4000 for it!!!!) I saw sell on EEEEbay went for $554 USD. You have picked a small Honda to NOS resto . Please don't take offense but you will have to realize right now that it is going to cost you plenty. Best to follow Quickies advice make your own and enjoy (and buy a set of DG stickers to plaster over your little thumper). Cheers Tim
-
Nah I have a nos pipe and a set of nos plastics 2 x XR75 Frames so I can easly do a full standard resto, If a DG swing arm came up I would pay 700dollars for it no probs. I am acually suprised people haven't made after parts for them like swingarms and even mono shock frames like they use to as these bikes are massive in the states.
So what other company's apart from DG made trick parts for these bikes!!!
-
TOM IF YOU ARE BUILDING A 78 DG RACER, YOU CAN BUY A REPO DG SWINGARM FROM GMC IN VIC, MONOSHOCK DG RACERS WERE FOR 4 SPEED MODELS ONLY, A FRIEND OF MINE MADE 10 DG REPO MONO SHOCK CROME MOLY FRAMES ONLY ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO, 6 WENT TO THE USA, 4 STAYED IN OZ, I HAVE ONE OF THEM IT COST ME BIG $$$$, DG NEVER MADE A ALLOY SWING ARM FOR THE 4 SPEED, ONLY THE 5 SPEED MODEL, THEY MADE A CHROME MOLY VERSION FOR THE 4 SPEED SIMLAR TO THE MONOSHOCK VERSION BUT WITHOUT THE MONO'S UPPER FRAME WORK. LOOK UP XR MINIRACER OWNED BY ALEX JUDD IN THE USA, HE MAKES DG PIPES AND MANIFOLDS FOR XR'S, ALL SO LOOK UP VINTAGE FACTORY AS WELL. IT IS BELIEVED THAT DG ONLY MADE 50 TO 100 FRAMES IN TOTAL.

DG racer.

DG PARTS WERE NEVER IMPORTED INTO OZ
They certainly were, I grew up with Derrim Porter (he actually works for me now), his parents were the Aussie distributors for DG in the 70's and 80's.
Their company was called Porterpower Imports, some of you might remember Derrim had the trickest XR-75 in the land.
-
Yes I can remember, Porter Power, and Fury racing who where the FMF dealers and Erics minibike centre. I was racing my XR75 back in the days of Derrim Porter, I used to get a lift to the track with Robin Rhodes and his dad.
I still have my 78 XR75 in race trim!

GEOFF MORRIS CONCEPTS, LOOK ON THE FIRST PAGE OF OZVMX, HIS ADD IS DOWN THE PAGE AND HE IS ON THE FORUM AS GMC.
-
I usually get confused with General Motors Corporation. Imagine that, 3 large corporations with the same initials. ;D
XR 75 DG replica swingarms, normally $495.00 but I am willing to accept up to $700.00 if need be :o

Hey Geoff,
Are these a direct copy of a DG swingarm you have had??
Also do they take the standarded length shocks(or is the actual swing arm longer)??
Does it come with a chain rub block/bushes for the front mounting??
Cheers
Tom

THE SWING ARM IS AN INCH LONGER THAN STANDARD.
-
Cheers BETRIC , I would think on that basis that the shocks would be an inch longer to then

Hay Kevwrx, any chance of asking Derrim for a couple of photos of any of his original race XR75's to be posted on this site that would be awesome, I was out of the miniracing scene by late 1976 but the trickest XR75K0-K3 I saw down here in Vic was a guy from South Australia( I forgot his name)that had a PK monoshock XR75 with all the hop up goodies on it that was worth a couple of G's back then, very competitive at Wallan against other XR75's but not that good against the YZ80's at Laverton etc.
-
I would like to see those pictures!!!
I must say the XR75 are a good looking machine in race form.

Kind regards

Nice XR75 I like the old school chrome look!!!!! I like the seat cover being the non slip and the underseat BSA looking frame wrap. Good combo. But the big question does it go as good as it looks?

(http://i38.tinypic.com/65tpib.jpg) A Home Brew one,made in VIC,whilst havin a few Vics. ;)
-
Nice looking machine good to see the note about you C.U.B sponsorship[ whilst building the bike, All good bikes need a VIC in the build. LOL
Does anyone know the paint code for the honda red they used on these bikes??
-
As young lad I was a big fan of Trail & Track mag and wrote a letter off to Porter Power Imports. I was pretty chuffed when I received back in the mail both a DG sticker and this photo of Derrim racing on his XR.

Runutz698
Color for the XR 75 is Tahitian Red - Honda Color Code R 23. Dulux powder coat color Signal Red is almost an exact match. Just got my frame back from the powder coaters and I can't tell the difference in color between Signal Red powdercoat from the Tahitian Red original paint on the tank
-
CHeers Adam that is what I wanted to know as I am shortly going to be sending the frame off to the powder coaters and the tank is going to be sprayed in a very high quailty acrylic. So that is awsome.
THe XR75 in the older picture is yellow?? is this a factory color as I though they were all red or gun metal.
-
Yellow wasn't an original color but I like it. Models K0 and K1 were Rubber Grey Metallic, K2 was Tahitian Red and Special Silver Metallic and K3 through to 78 were Tahitian Red (I think)
-
Great photo Woody, Porters XR is really "roostin". Does anybody know if that was that the last year (1977) the Honda Victorian minibike titles were held at Wallan???.
-
I have a trophy in my study from my XR75 days (Honda Jnr Moto X Championships Round 1, 1978). I think that was the last time we rode at Wallan before it was closed down.

Thanks Kev, I think I might use the second photo of Derrim doing the cross up as my screen saver, great photo. Must have read that T&T article heaps over the years haha. Hay Kev one last question to squash all those rumours that someone always reckons they have his race XR ,does Derrim still have his original race XR75???.
-
Derrim hasn't had the bike since 1979, who knows where it is now ?
BTW here's a pic of my XR-75 1977 Red Devil chassis number 666 !

Allyfab owns that.

I saw down here in Vic was a guy from South Australia( I forgot his name)that had a PK monoshock XR75 with all the hop up goodies on it that was worth a couple of G's back then, very competitive at Wallan against other XR75's but not that good against the YZ80's at Laverton etc.
Just reading the XR75 stuff and I was around racing the XR class in those days. I was from SA and Matt Muirhead was the guy with the meanest XR's I have ever seen. I think that is who the above refers too. His dad was a drag racer and really could make an XR snarl.
-
when I was wee lad (little bit different to now) I had a 75 model I think and was "sponsored" by the local Honda shop in Tassie (Lloyd Campbell Honda but no relation). Anyway they bought hot bits for mine from Bert Kingston in Queensland I think - bit late for the XR though as the YZBs and Cs were coming out and stock they were awesome - Jeff Ward racing Brian Myerscough in Minibike Racer I think was the magazine - those were the days!
Brother got one of those 77 Red Devil XRs - excellent machine to.

Your spot on dropbear it was Matt Muirhead , his Dad was a PK distributer back then in SA and just by coincidence I was at Broadford over the weekend at the Honda Bonanza and a mate had a couple photos of his PK XR75 in his old race photo album also whilst there I was very fortunate to meet Ray Owen the owner of the Old Wallan track, he told me the last race there was in 1979 and he closed it because of the public liability bullshit and one or two neighbors who complained about the noise, damn shame as that was one of the best race tracks in Australia bar none back then for minis and big bore MXers.
-
wow I had no idea there were trick mega dollar XR75 fetishers. Makes my $$$$ HL look pretty reasonable. ;D
-
For any XR75 fans out there. check this site out. It has been recently updated, nice JB in there.
