Post by: Prospector on May 02, 2016, 10:40:57 pm
Hi all,
I'm new to Ozvmx although i have been around the Vinduro scene for a few years and recognize a few names on this forum.

I'm mostly into PE's i have a 80 PE 250 T and a 83 PE 175 D.

I'm also behind getting the competitive  Bendigo MCC Vintage Enduro at Wedderburn up and running.

I look forward to reading and sharing everything vintage.

Cheers Pete

Hi, Nice PE's, so many PE's don't have the lugs to bolt the sprocket cover on, I just finished swapping to another set of cases just to get a sprocket cover back on.

Your right,  my rear lug is damaged,  probably the one that always gets damaged.  I have a brand new sprocket cover for it, i should put it on and hopefully it doesn't get smashed.  I have 2 broken covers,  maybe i should put one of those back on and save the good one for a rainy day.

If you run the chain guide ( case saver ) this elevates most of the problems. I don't understand why people take them out as they are there for a specific reason.
If you run a larger front sprocket .... buy the guide to suit.
If they are NLA make a template out of cardboard, then transfer it onto 3mm flat bar.

Stewart sent me a trace of that case saver plate a few years back and I made one up from a slab of steel plate (thanks Stewart).

It took about an hour all up - Vice, hacksaw, drill and angle grinder. Plus the side out of a Weetbix box as a master template which can be used as the basis for recreating different sized guards for different front sprocket sizes.

You need to have the steel plate just clearing a properly adjusted chain so the chain cannot jump off the front sprocket, really simple but effective.

Nice PE collection there Prospector, welcome aboard.

One of the things that caught my eye and impressed me when first the PE came on the scene was the case savers. what a brilliant idea. I can remember smashing the neutral light covers and untangling chains from clutch push rods on My Old suzukis and even  swearing when a magneto case was fractured. this was before the days of ali welding. if you can run a case saver then it just makes sense.

I might have to find out how to make one up before i try and fit my new cover.  I made a bracket and side stand for my PE 175 D is not bang on but you would have to look close to realize it's not original.

I should have mentioned the case saver I made was for an RM125T which would be the same for PE175T I expect.

Mine is a 83 175 D i think they are different, I'll just start with a cardboard cut out and go from there. I'll have a look around to see if one is out there some where,  but probably not.

I hope to make a start on one for my 80 model tomorrow if the boss is not watching, I have one to copy from so that makes it easy.

Good job, let me know how you go and post a photo.  Once your done measure the clearance from the chain to the case saver,  then I'll have a reference when i get around to making one.

Cheers Pete

2 that I made along side the original, not much between the saver and the rollers on the chain, 1 or 2mm with a 13 tooth sprocket.(http://i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah196/plymoth1/IMG_2139_zpsiobdbks7.jpg) (http://s1380.photobucket.com/user/plymoth1/media/IMG_2139_zpsiobdbks7.jpg.html)(http://i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah196/plymoth1/IMG_2138_zpsnandcp0a.jpg) (http://s1380.photobucket.com/user/plymoth1/media/IMG_2138_zpsnandcp0a.jpg.html)
