Here's a few pictures from today. Not many as I was feeling up the shat sorry but I'm sure there'll be many more from others. Huge event, great track but the place is a hoodoo for me, 3 visits and 3 woefull displays, never even got past the practice laps today before calling it quits due to the sinusitis crap I've suffered with all week. Such is life and there's some great events happening there next year so I'll be back to have another go. Here's the pics anyway, as I said, the atmosphere was great, loads of now familiar faces (many others unfamiliar as well), oodles of bikes, the track was yummy yummy and I can only imagine tomorrow will be a repeat of today ;)

it is a beautiful track folks and Tony I'm not sure who that guy on the CR was but he cleared off from everyone and styled it up like this lap after lap..here's the following blurry lap. As usual there were some super fast riders and super fast racing ;)

Great to talk with Magoo and have a yap with 'Cokeman' Hervey Birdman whom I hadn't seen for a couple of years also. A fine bunch of blokes (and women) the vintage MX crew are no if's, but's or maybe's!

I guess that's before his broken leg.............. :D :D :D :D :D

Missed your lens Tony
I only scored a bit of saturday and the track seemed to be drying fast. one part of thr track out the back near the road appeared to be turning to bulldust. Bill hit it on one lap and almost dissappeared. i waited for a while before he emerged as i thought he had an off but out he crawled.
Good racing and a damn good track . well done to shane and all the support staff and of course volunteers.

Lens or no lens, it's just great to see shots from events I can't get to. Thanks! ;D

what a great track, can anyone fill me in on its history.
VMX Nirvana.
In the early 1970s a local visionary called Campbell Green convinced the council it would be a good idea to set the place up for MX. Not sure but suspect the horse racing track was built at the same time. Campbell installed the reticulated watering system with pump at creek and tank on big hill and the other facilities we still use now.
The Sunshine Coast MCC has managed the use of the property for as long as I can remember and limits usage to protect the place from overuse.
My connection is from riding 2 day Enduros in the mid 1970s and the start/finish/camping/parc ferme was at Green Park, Conondale. After one particular "Stanley River 2 day", Geoff Eldridge 1978 250KTM and Geoff Udy 1978 PE175 were having a bit of fun racing each other around the MX track at warp speed. I was pretty impressed that Geoff Eldridge could sort of keep up with the Fast Fatso because Geoff Udy was quite a legend locally. Anyway the spectacle came to an end when Geoff Eldridge did a face plant at about 80km/h on the landing ramp of one of the faster jumps. He came up laughing. I have no idea where they got the energy for those hi-jinks after two days of non-stop riding (240km each day) but it has left me with an indelible memory.
If the MX track is wet, don't even bother getting your bike off the trailer as you won't be able to get around the track.
I don't think it is used any more for the MX course, but in the 1970s, we used to ride straight off the front hill towards the road (at the steepest part of the hill). Quite a thrill indeed. Have a look next time you are there.
Yes it is VMX Nirvana.
It's also Twinshock Trials Nirvana. Each year in November the Western Districts Trials Club runs the Classic and Twinshock Masters Trial (and Christmas party) there. The creek is fantastic trials terrain and it is a very popular event.

The Sunshine Coast MCC had been going for around 3yrs before going to conondale at a track in Nambour. It was great to see at the classic there were some of the founding members came out for a look. It has a long history and i hope more to come.
David the council has never been convinced of anything :(.

Hi all,
This was my first Conondale Classic - I had a blast! It's a great track and a great event run by a great, enthusiastic club with a great bunch of people. Did anyone notice the three blonde pony tailed riders? Any guesses for who they were?
Here's a few photos from the day.

At Connondale on the week-end i had a good ride , saw a number great bikes at lots of great riding.
A number of things caught my attention when i was passing though the pits , particularly these Rusty replicas.
I really thought cloning was banned in Australia.

Check out the smiles , we were having a cracker of a time on Friday evening.

Pick the real Rusty
The must have added something to the genetic mix , as the replica's are a little larger than the genuine NOS part.

Spelling isnt a strong point with NZers, it is "FIRKO"

have a good read of the CD5 thread Husky and sure enough, you'll see good old fiko in there

Well I had a ripper of a weekend at Conondale, it was sure worth the long drive, and dodging burning semi trailers both up! and back! on the highway.
Getting to race with the Cavell bro’s on the BSA’s & rad Brad 090 on his CZ in Pre’75 makes you work a bit harder, even to keep them in sight. And it’s a buzz when you’re leading a race, clearing the stepup jump at Drunks Hill and a BSA flies past you at shoulder height and proceeds to land somewhere down the hill and then tear off in a cloud of roost!
The only bummer was my RM250 letting the Russ Williamson ‘longhair’ lookalikes team down in the relay race when we were sitting in forth from the start. Sorry about that Russ, Magoo, & big Bill.
So thanks to all the team at QVMX for a great effort once again.
(PS. If any one happened to see a Suzuki Fuel Cap on the grounds, or the exit road, or the Bruce Hwy even, I lost it off my ’84 RM 250 , please PM me or ph:0417633944 thanks)
-
wombat check yer PM's

Tony, check the reply. ;)

Why a pig in the Connondale photos?
Coz Brads Dad told some great pig huntin' stories at saturday evenings camp fire.
I was reminded when I got this porker in an e-mail today.
and let's face it, what fair dinkum motorcycle ridin' bloke doesn't like huntin', shootin' and fishin' war stories!
Note: Porky was supposedly caught some 300km south of Katherine in the Territory (that's northern Australia for the benefit of our overseas friends). The story went on to say it was eating the local dogs... :P :-\

I hope you like the photos, I didnt get any more as some bugger loved Conondale dirt so much he wanted to kiss it and started singing Roxanne ;D and I had to change jackets from a photo-hog to an ambo-driver while Peter the ambo-man tried to get the straight jacket on "Sting". ;D
-
Nice photos DJ ;)
-
Excellant shots DJ, made me jealous i wasn't there.
-
Great shots DJ and hats off to you for looking after your mate and at the end of the day "THAT" is what Vintage Motocross is all about mates!!
Hoony old mate the W4 bike in these shots has a sister and you can have a go if you what to venture north one day.

Hey Dj talk about brilliant photos, you should of given those to Kylie Saturday night for viewing, anyhow It was good meeting you, hope TMBill is doing well.
Keep Smiling :)

I reckon that photo of TM Bill on the XR75 with the smile from ear to ear is a testament of both Bill and the Conondale Classic, it shows the mood of the whole meeting where there were 150 blokes and blokettes with smiles like that all weekend. Look after yourself TM, you're one of the funniest blokes I've ever met with a terriffic attitude to life. Hey DJ, did they let you use the siren on the way to the hospital?
-
Magoose it must be time for you to come over to NZ for a race, get your arse to Auckland and I can do the rest.I spoke with the Ira ( Iwo Jima movie Flags of our fathers and the drunken Indian flag raiser and that famous Johnny Cash song) Doe yesterday and he is battling the NZ health system (don't ask) but hopefully they will sort out his busted shank soon.
Cheers CT
-
great pic of Doc there in the middle with his "race eyes" on
-
Sensational photos DJ! A few angles there I hadn't considered; very nice, very clear.
and that head shot of Doc - is that the missing helmet?
There was a bit of a search late on Sunday arvo. Did it turn up?
-
Hoony you did miss a great weekend, awesome track and fanastic people, but ya cant be every where at the same time. Ya better go next year though.
It was good meeting you Jackiemac, and I liked all your photos on your website. I didnt have many photos to give to Kylie on saturday (maybe 10 or 12) as I was bumbling around the track on my bike but I didnt ride on sunday and thats when I went out to get most of my pictures and I tried to give her the photos I had taken but each time we went to down load them something would crop up like no power or driving an ambo, which I didnt get to put the siren on (I was so gutted) but all the police were waving out to me in a nice way so that was a big change for me.
I have just been to mark out the track we are going to use tomorrow for the "Masters of Motocross" and since I wont be riding I will be doing my next best hobby with is taking pictures of dirtbikes, so I hope I get lucky and get some good ones and I will post them up and try to entice some of you Ozzies to come to NZ.
-
