Title: Ohlins piggyback broken.........
Post by: Nitram on April 22, 2016, 08:18:15 pm
Ohlins broke....... :'(

(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y176/Kommer/image.jpg1_zpste6mgglp.jpg) (http://s5.photobucket.com/user/Kommer/media/image.jpg1_zpste6mgglp.jpg.html)

The shaft is good and the seals are new, but.........the piggyback bit is broken off......
Does anyone have a spare one kicking around ???? Please ?????  :-*

Doesnt matter if the shaft is rusty, bent and rooted, and the spring missing and etc etc. All I want is to be able to cannibalise the screw-off piggyback section. And it doesn't matter if the piggyback it scratched and beaten up and the piston inside is stuffed- I can fix all that and this isn't for a showbike....... It doesn't even matter if its not gold and red- I'll evan take a blue Husky one ! As long as it has a screw-off piggy back.....

Someone must have one !!!!

Give me a call.
Cheers,
Nitram

Keep in mind they are not all the same. Some have a port restrictor in them. The port from the res into the body can vary in size. I have only come across 2 types but there might be more. Look for markings 42 or 4.2 and 'S' cast into them. If your unbroken one has any of those markings then you will want to get one with the same markings so it matches. Some have no markings so if that's what you have then you need one with no markings.

Yeah, mine have what appears to be an adjustable brass jet in the passage from the reservoir body to the shock.  I have another pair that are the same so I figured they were all like that, but maybe not.
In any case, since the damping is all done on the shaft, perhaps the presence or absence of that restrictor isn't too critical ?
Anyway, I'm keen to get get these up and running, and I'm not so committed these days that I want to spend another $1k on a decent pair of shocks.......
Still lookin'............. :-\

Hey Lozz ! Show some respect !  ;) Those cable ties I used at Mac Park to hold the frame together were the hefty jobs ! Not the little namby pamby skinny things....... ;D

In truth, I had almost had the araldite out last night with a plan to block off the passage to the (now broken off) reservoir, and run it like a conventional shock........ But the araldite would have needed to support the main O-ring in the bottom, and it would just have popped under pressure.

I also though of getting it welded back on, and filling the gaps with a Loctite product.........but it looks to me like magnesium or some exotic alloy........ Would need a specialist welder....  :'(

Didn't even think of duct tape !!

Still lookin'..... :o

I once had some little nicks and scrapes weld filled on these so i don't think they are an exotic material. Did this break in a crash? because that's broken through the thread area i would not try to fix that though. You should be able to find another one though.

Hi nitram, I've got an ITC blue shock you can have for $20 plus postage. I might even have a gold one but will have to check first. Price is same though!

Sounds great.
See if you have a gold one since it's more likely to be the same I think.
Let me know.

Just another thought.  Have you contacted Steve Cramer to see if they are available as a spare part?
