Title: RM 250 A fuel tanks
Post by: maxvmx on February 25, 2016, 05:37:57 pm
Just wondering what a fair and reasonable price would be to buy a tidy and original 250 A fuel tank? Seen a few (occasionally) on eBay but the price sought in my opinion seems a little rich I ? Are these things on the endangered species list?

they are aluminium, so they tend to dent easier and were always more exe. Undented with scratches/ orig i guess $400. dont see many for sale...

I see them on USA ebay all the time but the sellers want over the top prices for banged up examples. So if your paying $200 USD plus post of $80 USD to get it here, then paying someone $500 AU to make it look new again for you (remove dents and paint), it ends up being pretty pricey. People will happily budget $500 for paint and $500 for chrome to do an old road bike tank but i cant see many wanting to spend a lot on a RM tank on a race bike unless its for concourse resto. You may want to look at getting a new Clarke plastic replica one if its not important to have the original alloy one.

I paid around $350 for an original one with some slight scratches and minor denting - good as a rider. there are some guys selling however that have rather high expectations

$1750 - do you think it'll sell? - if it is for a concourse restoration you would want to have all the other bits to complement it like OEM muffler, new side covers etc.

Who knows but you can spend $800 or more restoring a tank to mint original including stickers etc

I was lucky enough to find a rough one on gumtree last year for under $200. They pop up now and again.

$300 AUSSIE dollars is a fair price for a reasonable tank and probably $500 or more for one repainted and stickered .:-)

They're not on every street corner so I guess it all depends how bad you want one, but $100-$300 for a dented one & anything decent is easily $300-$500+. 250A with centre fill is probably even harder to find.
