Title: 78-80 CR250 Fork Mods

Can they be converted to work with emulators?

Post by: Tahitian_Red on January 14, 2016, 07:38:39 am: That was my first thought, but reading articles on how Bob Hannah raced "showroom" bikes during the 1977 Supercross season and then Team Honda did the same during the 1978 season, I thought maybe I would put modified stock forks (have a really nice set) on the bike and race it like that.

At one of our events a few years back I couldn't get my CR480 started and the gate was about to drop. A buddy of mine was pitted right by the starting gate and handed me his running '79 CR250. I jumped on and just made the start. It felt really nice and I finished well in the 40+ class. I looked the bike over after returning it to his pit and it had standard forks (rebuilt with proper rate springs) and the stock swingarm with a set of Progressive shocks on the back. I think I went just as fast as I have ever gone on my '79 Moto-X Fox replica CR250.

As you said K, I just do not go fast enough to feel the flex. :-(

Can these cartridge forks be converted to normal damper rods with emulators? Anyone know of a conversion like this?

Post by: Tahitian_Red on January 16, 2016, 03:34:04 am: These first generation cartridge forks are not like the late 1980's cartridge forks (which emulators are meant to "emulate"). That's why they went back to damper rod forks in 1981-85.
