Post by: Jumpjuly on October 27, 2015, 09:52:35 am
Hey Guys,
First post since registration and straight into it.

Will an MX250 barrel / head fit on a DT250 of the same year ??

Also what other parts are interchangeable.

thanks !

head/ barrel/ gearbox/ clutch all interchangable per year but kickstart shaft diameter changes '75 I think.

Gearbox / clutch parts go backwards also into RT1-3 and DT1-3 from the MX250 model. Yamaha parts bin is usually pretty interchangeable per each year model or cases type.

Perfect answer mate ! Any idea if they make an aftermarket pipe for one ? Or is there one I can modify to fit easily ?

Circle-F make a pipe for the MX250A (74) that comes in 2 pieces when you order it, it could fit a DT of the same year

Jumpjuly what are you going to use it for , before you start adding pipes and mx parts and spending cash . GMC makes pipes to fit Ive given him mx 250 pipes to copy . The 74\75 dt250 can be ported and a MX head with a larger carb can make a good enduro for its age . B4 you start spending lots of cash look at the suspension first get that sorted and then look for power . Iain

Thanks for the replies, basically I am going to make it into a road / trail bike. Something I can rip through the mountains then hit the fire trails. Im pretty much just chasing mid to top end power.
Ive already replaced the rear shocks with progressive shocks / springs & will be upgrading the front forks to a later model set of XR250 forks with weight suited forks.

I ended up getting a good condition MX Barrel and Head, I also have found a flatside off a late model Yamaha 250 two stroke which I will also be fitting up.
