I'm very angry with Jodie, I said to her after the last reno "Please remind me of all the head-aches before I take on another one" She didn't !!!! ;-)
The bike still has (what's left of them) the original tyres, has compression, has spark, the rear Koni's have damping and no leaks and DG airfork caps; that flatslide carb will have to go.
Free bucket-load of bird poo for your garden :-)

I looked at buying that C model, if it was closer to me I would have :-)

There are a couple of pipes here for painting (not mine), one is probably spare, I'll ask if you like? Done a few tanks recently (B & C) & pretty sure there are tank decals (B) here as well.

that patina is priceless....rat rod it?
-
Looks to me the little RM has a DS80 cylinder and '82 RM80 cylinder head ;)
-
Excuse my ignorance Doc. I thought the DS was a detuned RM ?
Pipe, and carby mods, I was once told. Obviously I have been given incorrect information.
Cheers, Mark.
-
Your information is correct Mark..the DS80 is basically a detuned RM80B. Good donor source for gear clusters, input/output shafts, clutch and kickstart mechanisms not only for the 5 speed 80B but also RM50C/N/T.

Chipping away at it.......

-
Doc is correct, it is an '82 RM80 cylinder head and a DS80 cylinder. I bought a piston for the RM80 which has lubricating holes for the exhaust port bridge ...... but the DS is unbridged :-( ..... wonder if I could peen-over the alloy and block the holes?
-
John, I've done this by using a bit of ally wire as a rivet . Put a chamfer on the outside of the hole in the piston so you can form a secure head. Copper or brass would be ok too.

Everything is starting to look really good. Its great fun when you strip them down, clean all the parts and get them painted/powdercoated/polished etc...
Keep up the good work.

love these little rm80b,s 1977 just picked up this one recently cheers Bear,

That is a really nice B there Bear. How did you score that beauty? An oval plate on the front would finish it off nicely but she looks great. Is that a repackable muffler on the exhaust?
Cheers,
Alex
-
Yeh Gaz, what are you doing with an RM80B with a non stock muffler & front guard ;-)
Beats me, how the hell do you score all that trick shit?
-
Right place right time for me, the bike is now owned by Byrners Suzuki I got it for him, not the right muffler and motor needs a rebuild, big k painted the tank, side covers are original but painted still a pretty good looking rm80b hey guys cheers Bear
-
John, do you need a cheap airbox for the B, as it looks like yours is missing. Gumtree has a complete B one for sale for $30. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/gosford/parts/suzuki-rm80-77-air-box/1092857323
Cheers,

It's coming-along, sounds crisp. Still have to get more stuff, I custom-made the side covers from a yellow plastic tub off ebay, fuel-tank painted with a rattle-can :-) Thanks to Alex on here for the pipe heat-shield and valuable information.

Thinking outside of the square with yellow tub looks good ... Top job ;)

Excellent job John, hard to believe it is the same bike.
I'm loathe to say this as it may be construed as a sales pitch (not) and it sucks when someone knocks your efforts but mate that muffler just looks so wrong. Too large and modern looking.

But do you know anyone that could help remedy this problem...? ::) :D

Yep I agree with you, I only put it on to start it, the muffler & front guard are coming off quick-smart; I will hand-make an original looking muffler for it. :-)

That will be interesting. If you need measurements then i will be able to give you exact details of length, diameter etc. Glad that the alloy muffler and front guard are going. The bike has come up brilliant.
Cheers,
Alex

nice try GMC but no banana.... ;D
-
Ended up getting a muffler from the US, the front guard is a replica US YZ80E, made a front plate (including mounts) from the yellow tub :-)

Period aftermarket items are-
Koni shocks.
DG air fork caps.
plastic levers.
Not quite so 'period'-
'79 DS80 barrel.
'81 RM80 cyl head.
'84 RM80 flatslide carb.
-
Great looking bike ......doing an RM80 B/C hybrid currently :-)
-
looks good John - very envious - would of killed for one as a kid ;D
-
That looks bloody brilliant John. Amazing what you can do with a yellow bucket. Where in the hell did you get a muffler? They are like rockingham horse shit. You have a great base bike there. How does it sound. The sound of the B is like a tin of bees. Anyway, well done and a massive improvement over that blue bird shit bike you started with. Are you going to keep it like it is, or slowly change parts out for originals... its a bug that bites...
-

An American guy on one of the pages on Facebook advertised some junk he had, old YZ80 & RM80 frame, wheels and exhausts, I could just see the B muffler in the background of the pic, I told him I'd pay twice what he first quoted for the muffler, just so I'd get it. Cost me $135 US delivered; it's like new so I was happy.
