WTF do these people think they have?????? I have a mint one with all the fruit, fox airshox, alloy swingarm,DG pipe ,gold anodised rims etc etc .Although not for sale it wouldn't be worth even close to his reserve on his shitbox........unbelievable..........or maybe I have a million dollar bike collection and just don't realise it........LOL
-
"yeah luv, I put that old bike on feebay but nobody has even bid on it. It owes me a couple of grand, so I cant scrap it, but nobody will buy it"
-

Dreamer or "reluctant seller", it doesn't matter much: He'll be keeping it either way.
Assuming he's serious, he's probably caught a particularly strong case of Rampant Optimism Without Reality.

but these people obviously have no experience with VMX bikes - I ask again about the $20K KX250 - surely somebody in the "game" realises that ain't gunna happen?????
-
Whats worse is they expect someone to pay 15G for it on the basis of 2 pissy out of focus photos.

What happens is a variation on a theme:
They see a fully restored, race ready Maico 490 sell for $11k, and instantly they think "old bikes are worth heaps! The old ag bike must be worth $5k at least!!"...
I regularly see gronks on FB insisting that ANY 500 MXer is worth $8k+ (including run-down shitters). Then you link ads from DDR and/or Robz for clearly superior bikes for way less than $8k, and they usually shut up... But some stick with the big talk, despite the clear evidence otherwise.
-
I saw a guy up here a few years ago selling an XT500 for $10,000.
His price was on the basis that his mate from the pub saw one for sale, in a magazine, at that price so they must be worth heaps
As soon as I hear the words "my mate from the pub" I know it's going to be a laugh

scam job that for sure. he says its an "ex motocross bike" from 83 (I assumed Mr Motocross??) then he says oh yeah..its an import...

If you are doing a resto wouldn't you use the correct colour rims and an original swingarm to start? >:( I think the problem is with builders confusing 'restoration' with 'rebuild' in their descriptions. For me a 'restoration' is back to original and a 'rebuild' is getting it back to some variation of usable condition. Probably would save particular pricks like me whinging if the bikes are described properly IMO. :o
