Things I've seen (not done) ;D

My 84 KX125 motor ran really badly, and was totally insensitive to jetting and timing changes - turns out that some champion had put the piston in backwards.
More recently, I bought home an '01 KX125 with the piston in backwards - this is less of a crime considering it's a case reed motor with a full length skirt on both sides, but the really impressive bit was the head gasket made of blue silicone...
-
Nice bit of welding on that sprocket, yoo can tell he was an expurt as all small welds, didn't get it too hot thereby destroying the seal. ;D
-
It's true... dyslexia and tank stickers don't mix
-
I recently bought a 89 350 ktm with an enormous amount of spoog around the front of the motor.Took the pipe off and yes two big holes looking at me.Piston in back to front. The PO is probably still trying to figure out why it ran like a dog.
-
i brought a dt400h motor off the local wrecker and its piston was arse about too.but the reason it stopped and became wrecker stock was the chain came off and stuffed the cases so much that it had no clutch arm.the things people do and some people just shouldnt own tools

That sump job welding gives cocky sh!t welding a place in acceptable welding skills.

Yep, some people shouldn't have access to tools.....or air for that matter!
The YZ with the backward forks reminds me of an old acquaintance I use to ride with. There was no convincing the fool that the reason the forks on his RM370 were called leading axle forks was because the axle is in front of the fork....not the other way around ::) He reckoned the bike turned better with the forks backwards!
-
The yz does look a bit diffrent with the forks turned around , i have seen a usa flat track bike set up the same way .
It would turn better with the trail and rake , foot print changed but still looks odd .
-
Forks on backwards reminds me of the old Scott Bishop quote: "it looked like it had a head-on with itself".

I intentionally did this on a XT500 once as an experiment to see if it would turn better. They were known for too much rake, It was an early model with later model leading axle fork so the rake was even worse. It did look weird though.

Trail would have increased but the rake wouldn't. The increase in trail would have made the steering a lot heavier and more straight line stable but I doubt it would have turned better.

Apparently this blokes job was to remove this nut from a tube socket while it was still on the rattle gun...

I reckon I know this bike Geoff. If it is the same one I think it is, the only thing holding the clutch basket in is good will. The bushing over the input shaft is missing and the basket doesn't fit.
Where did you cross paths with it?

I think its one l saw for sale somewhere on the net, probably "fully restored" ;D I love "fully restored" kdx's for sale.
-
Yeah, my mate bought it. Thankfully, we cant start it especially after finding that wrong clutch hub and no support bushing.
It was probably "fully restored" and he paid good money for it.
I wonder what other horrors lurk beneath.

What model KDX is it?
If 175 then I may have a clutch

You can always tell a good welder when it's really hard to see where they have stopped and restarted :o
-
You can see where he stopped and started and almost count how many times.
-
Yeah, a 175 Geoff. Did you get my phone message last friday night?
-
Completely off topic, we were going to swap the complete clutch basket from the bike above to his other KDX175 which has just received new bearings, seals, piston and rings but it wouldn't fit.
Look at the baskets separately, and they look identical. Part numbers on the alloy castings identical, says KX125, but the gear riveted to the back is different.
Primary drive side is the same but the kick gear is bigger on the basket out of the bike above. The only way to get it back in would be to leave out the bearing sleeve to engage the kick idler. Hence the butchery I reckon. I'm glad he fried the clutch in the other bike, because this bike with no basket support sleeve would have been a sad hand grenade had we got it going.
Any idea what the difference between the two baskets are? Different year/model?
-
Partzilla says same clutch '80-'82.
From the back the 175 and 200 look very simular.

But from the side its easy to see they'll not interchange. The 175 is on the right.

-
Thanks Geoff. The pair of baskets we have are like the one on the right with the clearance for the shift linkage, but one has a bigger gear for the kick idler.
My mate was speaking to GMC and it might be a KX123 as he thinks they have a different kick idler and kick gear assembly.

I don't know why redbull bother to hire Aussie drivers. They obviously don't want them to win
-
Probably just aiming at the Aussie market for their cough mixture. I imagine that's why they have a child driving one of the cars, to aim at the teenage market. Crap product, crap team.
