Title: 2015 Blackwood Vinduro: August 29 - 30
Post by: Tex on July 28, 2015, 11:11:05 pm
The Blackwood Vinduro is just over a month away. Hopefully my boots will have dried out by then! Entry & UVP forms are available on the VERi website.

It will be a different course to last year, but we'll depart from the same location.

More details to come...

Please note that the main event is on Sunday. On Saturday afternoon there'll be a small 'special test' track on which to hone your skills!

Yep, me too. Be good to see you guys there.

Is rego required for Stratford and Tallarook?

Yes and no. There is a self-contained loop at Tallarook completely on private property, where no rego is required. There's also a ride thru surrounding bush where rego is needed, as well as motorcycle licence.

Similar deal at Stratford, however we are working out some more details for Stratford, so stay tuned...

VERi volunteers were out doing a preliminary recce of the course today. It's looking good - a bit wet in places, but mostly puddles that can easily be avoided. I've been assured that there'll be no bogholes! It is slippery in places though, so good tyres are advisable. The course will be around 60 km or less, and will use some of the same trails as last year, but with a lot of new stuff thrown in.

Pre-entry closes in a weeks time on Monday 24 August. If you want to apply for a UVP through VERi, then you'll need to get it in by this Friday. Vic rec rego is ok for this event.

Accommodation is still available through the club, or organise your own at any of the local B&Bs etc. Easily accessible from Melbourne, Ballarat, Bendigo, etc so arriving on Sunday morning is also easy.

This was a great event last year, and this one should be too!

Strewth Tex, those vids gave me flashbacks to those sewerage trenches disguised as puddles.

Better get my skates on and put my new rego sticker on (yes I have renewed in time this year), repack my muffler and find my riding gear.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm,Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
Almost - had to wait almost 3 days in the pits on the Sunday for a certain KDX to be rebuilt enough to wobble around after me. Anyway, the SWM is the Muhammad Ali of the offroad world - floats like a butterfly above the water and mud and stings like a bee in the open stuff.

We're expecting around the same as last year, about 60+

Most of the loop will be different to last year, but two of the 'memorable' hills will be included again. There'll also be a tricky hill climb with added rocky goodness that Drakie seemed especially excited about ;).

Just like last year, we'll depart from the tennis court area at the recreation reserve. Riders briefing is at 8.30am  on Sunday, and we'll be raffling off some prizes then as well.

The pre-entry window has more or less closed, but you still enter at the event as long as your bike is registered or has a permit.

Maybe it was the squished tadpole guts that were affecting my braking performance, then?

Yes, catered. Just basic fare. Fried greasies cooked by a singlet wearing cook with a ciggie dropping ash into the eggs!

Setting out the course continues, with a few refinements being made to what promises to be a terrific ride.

There will still be the special test area from last year for riders to have a practice on Saturday, but it most likely won’t be marked out. You can also explore some of the trails around the area on Saturday if you wish.

Good tyres are strongly recommended as are plastic bags and duct tape to waterproof your boots. This is due to the large amount of puddles around, rather than creek crossings etc.

Same day entries are welcome of course.

Many thanks to VERi and all the people that organised this weekends ride at Blackwood.
l enjoyed the very comfortable accommodation and the hot showers provided, a couple of bacon/egg rolls & tea for breakfast and the well signed 48km course we rode.
There was also a raffle and l won a new front knobby  :)

I though Blackwood was the best ride of last year and this year was as good despite being a wetter course  :)

Another great event…

It was certainly challenging, with some of the “puddles” more like inland lakes after intermittent rain in the days leading up to the event. There seemed to be an endless supply of slippery, snotty hills great and small, and man weren’t they fun.

Jeez you had to watch some of those logs and branches lying across the track too - they were slimy.

I’m a bit embarrassed about my paltry single lap now, especially as some folks managed three. Must try harder next time… I must make special mention of the chap who rode his first ever vinduro yesterday, and completed the course on a nifty little DT100! Well done that man!

From a club perspective, we were thrilled with the turn out which exceeded last year’s event, so hopefully this will continue to grow.

As mentioned already here and elsewhere, recognition is due to the volunteers who made it all happen.

We try.  ;)
Beaufort, Harrow, Blackwood, Yass, and Canowindra so far this season. Cookardinia, Tallarook, Stratford and maybe one or two others should complete the season. Looking to add Hopetoun to the list for next year.

Committed! (or maybe should be committed!)

Phill.

BTW, Thanks for your positive comments on our videos!

Now that's an itinery I'd like to have. Next year maybe, always next year. I have Cookadinia firmly placed in the diary, the next two not so sure. VTR are  doing great work in the Vinduro area by all accounts. That is def. on the agenda for next year.

Always good to see the Vids. thought Harrow was a beauty , keep them coming. :)

The only negative I had from Blackwood as the bacon and egg pie from the sponsor. Blokey says "these are something special"

Never had a bacon and egg pie in my life that had a hard boiled egg in the middle, streaky bacon wrapped around it, rind on, and then filled with egg mixture all encased in shortcrust pastry.

I was like pie lotto. Take one bite and if you get a bit of rind and try and chew, the whole bloody thing explodes in your hand and drops onto the car seat. Leaving you with a handful of crumbs, a boiled egg and a rasher of bacon.
