Title: Road approved flat track tyres ?
Post by: jimson on July 10, 2015, 02:21:32 pm
G'day viewers I'm thinking of joining the motor bike club down this way & putting club rego on Hannibal. So I figure a flat track tyre would be the go as that would mean I can get club rego & still go & use the bike for a bit of flat track. So my question is what would be a good choice in today's market ? Pirelli MT43 4.00-18 $160 or Mitas ETO1 4.00 R18 $140 can anybody point me in the right direction please & cost is important so no big dollar tyres. Thanks jimson

Mitas is the more modern radial tyre whereas the Pirelli is a very old crossply design, I'd say the Mitas should give you better grip off road but the Pirelli may give the better wear on the road.
I've read quite a bit on trialscentral where both tyres have been talked about, grip & MT43 are considered mutually exclusive terms due to it being basically a 70s era tyre. The Mitas doesn't grip anywhere near as well as a full on trials tyre but can be acceptable on the right bike
Cost difference also favours the Mitas so that would be my recommendation

Jimson, Last time I had the same quandary, I sort of spun 180 degrees and went looking for "Flat Track acceptable/useful road tyres"  Found it a much easier selection process on the old brain. Cheers Tim754
