Bob Johnson, the best Motocross/Supercross  commentator ever,is going to dust off his white suit, and do a bit on the Mike, just like he did back in the day.It will be interesting to see who can make it through the day,it sure can be a tough track if you're not fit, particularly on a hot November day.

Just going through old photos for Goondi 40th,and found some of 1979and 1980 Mountain Man,Pelle, Landman, Peter Boyle, and all the usual suspects,I will have to get Gibbit to put them up.I remember Peter Boyle(Phil Thew Suzuki) as the smoothest rider ever at Echo Valley,he did'nt look like he was going fast, but no one could get near him. Also some of the 1980 Supercross in Sydney, huge crowd, standing room only.Does anyone remember who was"USA2"on a Suzuki.

Nice work Johnny. Went with a few mates and watched the Jammer and Gall go at it. I remember watching a guy from central NSW on a Can- Am 250. Think his surname was Foster but could easily have that wrong. Also paid $38 for a slab of Swan lager at the venue. So they have been gouging for crap drinks for a long time.

I still have my Blue and Yellow Jersey I bought from Phil Thew,to this day it was the best jersey I ever had,I bought a retro style at Xmas ,but it is not the same.I can remember riding at Echo Valley in the late 70's,before you could wear nylons,I had bought a pair of Yoko pants, with fire proof lining and leather seat,I had left my leathers at home, determined I was going to race in the Nylons(we had been wearing nylons in the Darling Downs MXSeries)I was knocked back, and told unless I had leathers,I was spectating for the day.I knew the Clerk of the Course, and he offered me his leathers,I was 11 stone,he was about 20 stone, anyway I cooled down, and rode in his leathers, mind you I did'nt win the fashion award.I think it was at Mountain Man,1980,and the 125 C grade had 50 riders with 30 gates,so all the Brisbane, and coast riders were given the front row,and the country boys were behind,a young bloke from Collarenabri and I worked out if we lined up behind, but between the city boys,we could go just before the gate dropped, and ride straight through the front line,we were in about 3rd and 4th,before the leader went down, causing the usual C grade first corner pile up,it seemed like a good idea!

All past Mountain Men,except Gally are returning to Echo Valley for the 40th,Gunter is bringing the KX500 he won on,with him.Flood,Ganquist,Bell ,Dack,Carroll,Leisk,Bailey,Armstrong,Boyle etc will be there. Will be the event of the year. They have a better parking plan this time,it always amazes me that Toowoomba slaps parking fines on visitors to their city's sporting events, they do it at football games as well.I hope they fix the PA up so we can hear Bob Johnson.

Here's a statement about this event from Col Metcher, president Brisbane MCC:

The 40th Anniversary of Mountain Man will be held at Echo Valley Toowoomba on November 7 & 8. Full information on the Mountain Man, Toowoomba MCC and MQ websites.

Classes include Classic, Post Classic and Modern to celebrate and resurrect this iconic event first run un 1975 and won by Gary Flood on a 360cc Bultaco. Club mate Terry Groom will have his similar machine on display, and Gary Flood, with most of the other winners through to Troy Carroll 1997 winner will be in attendance.

There are many exciting aspects to this event, but I’ll confine this to Brisbane MCC involvement.

Brisbane MCC is sponsoring Pre’75 and Pre’78 classes ( co-incidently 40th anniversary of these bikes too ) with trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each Pre75 and Pre78. Also to recognise the participation of riders of a certain age, there are trophies for Veterans, Masters, Seniors and Superseniors
The sections of the track less suitable for more mature bikes and bodies will be by passed, and as all three rounds for these two classes will be on Saturday the track will be in good condition.

Brisbane MCC has also combined with “Mountain Man” to raise funds for our “Riders Against Depression-beyondblue” charity drive. This will take place at the Charity Dinner on Saturday evening.

This is the last event of the year and one not to be missed.  We hope for a really good turnout for this one.

Toowoomba Motorcyle Club-Toowoomba Motocross Club and Queensland Vintage Motocross Club (QVMX) are putting the meeting on and it should be a great event lots of big prize money up for grabs so they should get a big turn out. We've even managed to get enough for a sidecar class.

See you all there...

Anyone got any photos from this weekend?
Promotions said that all past winners bar one
would be there (EG: Gary Flood).  I'd love to see a pic or two of the legends.
I think Beetle Bailey raced?  That'd be an interesting pic too  :)
