Does anyone know much about the road version YZ250? Some were complianced by Annand & Thompson in 1989, just trying to find out a bit more about them, lights, etc. Pics maybe?

I don't know about the 1989, but there used to be a road registered 1974 MX250 in the Penrith/St Mary's, NSW area. I don't think they needed ADR back then. Good luck.

Some of the 89 YZ250WRs were complianced by A&T, later in the year. I recall a comment in ADB along the lines of "the long awaited compliance plates finally turned up in September"...
They all seemed to run an Acerbis Elba headlight and the matching Acerbis rear guard/tail-light.
I suspect the rest of the compliance gear was never seen on the customer bikes... They got one bike through compliance testing, and then sold the bikes in a less than road-worthy state...

Yeah i have that article and the light was an Elba and Fender Acerbis Baja.

This is one of a very few YZ 250's that was complied for registration in 1988 by brisbane based Annand and Thompson motorcycles. The bike will be sold with 12 months Qld registration and current roadworthy certificate. You will be very lucky to even find another one of these. An absolute weapon on the road and the biggest head turner in town. Awesome bike to ride with no problems whatsoever. Realistically priced when you see what non road going MX bikes from this era are going for. Super super rare. I can deliver this. Call for details.

Pity it's so over-priced.
I get the appeal of this sort of thing: competitive VMX mount that can be trail ridden and vinduro'd.
But for $6k, you could buy a good VMX bike AND a ten year old enduro bike.
Not to mention that there's no Vinduros that require rego AND welcome a bike of this age.

From someone who was riding enduros in the mid 1970s, I can confirm that there were quite a few road-registered MX bikes in use around the Brisbane area. They were mainly used for competition. Back then, many of the big events required road rego. The three Annand and Thompson sponsored riders Peter Payne, Steve Cotterell and Geoff Petler rode road-registered YZs until the ITs came out, and when the ITs first came out, they were only slightly more road compliant than a YZ but no battery or indicators and no compliance plate. A few years later on when the Main Roads dept started getting serious about motorbikes needing ADR compliance plates, the Yamaha distributor would post out your compliance plate for your new bike when they were made.

Another riding friend had a road-registered CR390 Husky which I think was a 1978 or 79 model
Later on (late 1980s) I lived up North and found that it was commonplace for people to be racing current model YZ125, YZ250, KX250 and CR125 bikes in enduros. One bloke I rode with worked at Cairns Yamaha and he had one of the first Yamaha YZ250WR (I'm thinking it must have been about 1988 or 1989) and it was a pretty close thing to a normal YZ250, and it came with a compliance plate (fairly amazing to have a compliance plate on that thing I thought at the time)

My yz125c was one of those. When i picked it up it still had a headlight, the tank lugs had been cut off the frame to fit a larger capacity plastic tank, and it was running a ty175 gearset. I'm led to believe Peter Payne rode it back in the day.

Nathan I didn't see what the bike was priced at but I have noticed it sold .I think as u have said b4 the bike is worth what someone is prepared to pay which is the case here which is great because it keeps the price up for clean tidy bikes cheers

$6k was the advertised price. I figure that $4k would be closer to the mark.
I'd be interested to know what it actually sold for.
There was a 93/94 WMW250 for sale recently, that took a couple of weeks to sell from a $4k ask.
And a 89 WMW250 basket case that sold quickly from a $1200 ask.

my yamaha tt 500 c is still registered to this day...qld rego plate TT 501 i still pay the rego every year but never rideit. i figure its worth more this way to sell .

I recall doing a ride in about 91 or 92 and there were two brothers that had compliant YZ250 and CR250, they were both actually quite fast riders which made them stand out, as was the headlight and taillight on their bikes, they also did argue a lot amongst each other, I was amazed they were road worthy at that time and never thought any more about it, until 25 years later reading this post.

I have an 89 YZ250WR with compliance and a spare frame with compliance also. Once I do a chop out of bottom cradle on original frame and replace with my 3rd frame cradle ( Rusty ) I will could be tempted to sell off the 2nd compliance frame.
Great bikes with a heavier flywheel weight than motocrosser and taller 5th gear other than being blue and white its the same beast.
