hi guys I know this has been asked before but maybe someone knows a new trick will the complete 89 to 94 electrics ( water cooled ) work on the 86 to 88 ( air cooled ) or should I have a KDX 200 bonfire (I HAVE SEEN PVL FOR ENDURO BIKES AROUND $300)

If you are gaving problems with the original ignition The source coil is often the fault . Easy fix

thanks guys but its the flywheel magnets that have broken up but 89 up parts are easy to get

I would make the assumption that if you use all the parts from the one model; flywheel, stator & black box then it will all work together okay.
The big question is the stator the same size to be able to bolt into place and does the flywheel have the same taper.
I reckon the flywheel will fit the taper okay but wonder if the depth to the stator will be the same.
Stator size of the 86 200 is bigger than the 175 so a measurement of an post 88 model would be handy.
I'm interested to know how you get on as one day I will need a complete ignition for an 86 200 as well

My 84 200 currently has a 96 flywheel with the original 83-4-5 stator coils. I cut a new keyway in the tapered hub once I had the timing sorted due to the magnets being a different offset to the earlier model. The angle took a bit of working out. I eventually got it right by useing a timing light to pinpoint new timing marks then engraving the new timing marks on the flywheel and finally measuring the piston height with a dial gauge to time it.
I didnt even bother having a key in the shaft for about twelve months and never had a problem with it moving on the shaft.
The magnets dont come loose and destroy the coils on the later model flywheel, something that is a real problem on the earlier model flywheels as they get old.
I dont know about the 86-8 model ignition if the same can be acheived with its original coils, but I would asume that changing the entire ignition to a later model might give rise to some problems with advance curves and characteristics of the CDI unit that may not bid well with the earlier air cooled donk.
If I had the parts id try it just to see what happens.

There's a shit-stir in the making

He did say "one day". There was no suggestion of which week/month/year/decade or even century that day would be.

Muuum, the guys are picking on me again
Young Nathan I will have you know that all my Kawasaki's were only picked up this century, it's only my Maico resto and my CZ & HL builds that have been dragging on since the last Millenium

thanks for the input I will try the 1990 electrics and will let you know the out come
cheers :)
