Ok guys see how we go with this one, 84 CR500 Honda engine how much compression is to much, engine is now 8.5hrs old from new everything, I've now broken 2 barrell studs, so I've checked the compression and warm engine, full throttle, after 4 kicks the gauge reads 175 PSI and I think that's to much I'm thinking thicker head gasket?????
Any thoughts???

Talk to Wayne he did the same to mine mate

a good engine should have 150 psi plus did you replace all the studs and bolts and are they torqued to tension. you never know what someone b4 has done like over tightening of studs and bolts and things. genuine fasteners are the best bet but if you can't source new its a bit of a bummer.

Hi Chris, mate all the studs where replaced about 6 hrs running time ago as it has broken one once before, and we thought being a 30 year old motor replace them all, they where replace with the stock Honda studs and torqued to the standard spec 26-31 lbs on the barrell and 20 lbs on the head, it is a modified engine but still shouldn't break the studs.....

Check the squish measurement. You know, the old solder down the plug hole trick.
Someone on here will know what the measurement should be.
