Title: RM/ RMX differences?
Post by: Curtis on May 18, 2015, 03:30:20 pm
Does anyone know all the differences between the early RMX and RM250?  89,90 models etc.
Other than the obviously lighting coil.
Firmer suspension? Wide ratio box? Milder porting? Heavier flywheel? Frame?
... :)

Pretty much nailed it.

For 89 models:
Wider ratio box.
Stand (and mount on frame).
Lighting coil & lights.
Softer springs.
Bigger tank.
Something go different in the porting and/or PV.
Stickers.
Odometer.
Muffler for US model (not 100% on Aussie RMXes).

Later RMXes also got a different, "three stage" PV, and the stand moved to the swingarm at some stage.

In 89, the RM still had an 18" rear wheel.

Fast guys or guys who just wanted to be like the fast guys fitted the RM head and pipe.

They also had a small metal loop bolted to the frame under the water pump as protection. Sometime to look for when trying to determine if it's a rm or rmx from pics.

89 rm/ rmx have the same top end apart from the head gasket, I found this out when I ordered a new cylinder.

I checked up on the part #s as it was a while ago, back in the day the rmx cylinder was different to the rm but Suzuki changed the part number later and superseded the old rm/rmx part #s.
I don't know what porting the current cylinder has but mine it a bit peaky for a rmx.
