Heaven VMX and Northern Districts are discussing holding an inter-club meeting with a difference around September at Dargle
This thread is just to guage some idea of peoples thoughts. The date, details have not been confirmed or even approved by either club yet so your thoughts are welcome.
This is all at the embrionic stage, just putting it out there for feedback. It is basically a thought Bubble by a couple of Heaven and Northern Dist Committee members so very open to ideas but constructive would be preferred.
The objective is to allow Vet riders to be involved in a meeting without juniors and open moderns along with exposing them to the classic bikes. Many VET riders will relate to EVO/Pre85/Pre90 ;)
It also allows Post classic riders (many / most have moderns) to run their moderns at a meeting along with their Classic bikes. 8)
Details points
- The meeting will, as pointed out above, be held at Dargle.
- Practice Saturday racing Sunday
- Post Classic & Modern Vets classes
- 3 x 4-6 laps post classic races
- 2 x 15-20min +1lap moderns
Classes
- EVO/Pre85/Pre90 125cc (scored in classes)
- EVO 250cc
- EVO >263cc
- Pre85 250cc
- Pre85 >263cc
- Pre90 250cc
- Pre90>263cc
- 35+ yrs Moderns
- 45+ yrs Moderns
- 55+ yrs Moderns
Does the idea have merit?
Should Classic (Pre75 & Pre78) be included and race on Saturday?
Good idea?
Yes you can race your Post classic bike in Vets classes.
Other suggestions

Great idea. ;D
-
I have both old and Modern , I have not raced my modern much but would like to race with guys not trying to jump over me so yes I would bring a extra bike.
-
Sounds great.
-
It does sound great :)
ride by day, burn meat by night with family and friends, then ride by day with family and friends and let no mungrel divide a smile :)
-
Instead of modern bikes maybe run classes up to pre 2000
-
I think it is like an extra meeting outside of the normal meeting NSW calender sort of thing. Possibility an opportunity to invite our young to old dirt sort of things. Its not a sort of thing that requires compulsory attendence if uninteresting.
-
Extra race meetings are GOOD ...
I think it would be great to include the Classic classes... after all the intent (?) is to gain a little more interest?
Is there a 4 week allowance on the age groups? ... I'd make the 45-55 class then ..... lol :P

Grand idea..more events 8) 8)
;D bring on the new era .....Happy Birthday Kawasaki King :)

I think it's more to get those old blokes that don't have an old bike interested. As we all know they don't know what they're missing out on! Great way to wake them up.

Exactly the idea! You get it ;D

I think it's a great idea and a good choice of classes..
-
Pre-Evo bikes are eligible for Evo.
Will the event get more entries by giving them their own class? Will the extra race be worthwhile, or will it be a tedious thing where everyone stops and waits for four bikes to ride in formation around the track?
-
If anything you could maybe ad a class that is Pre 78/75/70 Unlimited and run them all in together but I don't know that you need to..
-
The objective is, as Brad suggested, to expose VMX to guys and gals that are generally the age group that possibly have interest in the bikes.
35+ would probably be more interested in Pre95 but the riders 40+ would certainly relate to Pre90 as they would probably have been juniors in that period.
We could add Pre78 but our experience is that riders who start in Pre85 - Pre90 tend to get earlier bikes to have more rides. Look at Hardo who is now looking at Pre75/78 (bless his green heart :P) Heaven VMX has not had a Kawa in Pre75/78 for years and 2 turned up this year and Hardo is looking for another! 8)
We are thinking that by starting at EVO for this meeting would present the most attractive classes to spark interest in the Vet riders.

Reverse physcology for pre75..awesome idea.. 8) the class structure looks good, youd have to be aware that the moderns dont out do the entries on classic bikes though. Also some dads wont bother attending without there kids.Id think Barry "who the heck is Cockle" would of taken his young lad for a ride. :)
-
LOL Scrivo....
Yes I am still looking for a green one... ;)
I really do like the way Heaven are looking at ways to gain more exposure/interest and are definitely focussed not just on the now - but are looking into the future. Thumbs up. :D

I may know of a '75/76 KX400 if you are interested. Unmolested complete bike except the exhaust is toast (it was removed for repairs and the shop doing the work 'lost' it, I kid you not) let me know. You could then come and play with Sean, Scott and I in Pre78 500s 8). Hang on that means a 'greenie' will be showering me with sh&t. Nah you don't need a 400 :P

great idea 8)

Well done David Middleton for being the brain child behind this innovation, and to want to name it in the memory of Barry Cockle, a good friend to many riders is a nice touch. Now who do I know, who I can borrow a modern bike from?
-
I hear Ando gives them away..... lol :P

Ha Ha, where's the like button?

It's early days yet, naming event after Barry cockle is something that is very close to wayne smiths heart as Barry was like a brother to wayne & why wayne is so passionate about getting dargle up & running again, Barry was a regular spectator at the heaven lakes events & said to me that looks like fun & should get a vintage bike to park next to his modern bike, I spoke to Barry about a vintage/ veteran event , which is where the whole idea came from, classes have to be worked out for an even & fair for vintage & veterans alike , hope everyone is keen on the idea as a lot of the friends of barry with modern bikes are, feed back would be great???? cheers middo

Sounds good to me,as I was thinking of selling the modern bike how about an age limit class from 53 to 54 that should help me out lol.
-
Exellent idea!!

Do you want to class to go up a year each year on your birthday?
-
Personally, I always hope that an event organiser will run a race for people exactly my age, on bikes of the exact age, model and type as the one I'm riding.
I reckon I could even win that, but the bastards never run it for some reason?!
-
What a great concept,
if you could run transponders for the bikes, just to give us old fellows our lap times between the old and modern class's would be a heap of fun over a few coldies at the end of racing/riding.
? for the age eligibility guys, am I a carry over model, if I'm 53 but look 60? or better still, ride like I'm 60
I would be in that, no worries, transponder or not.
cheers Worms

Oh and I would be happiest if all bikes in my 53-54yo class where 2005 husky te 250s that should narrow the field a bit :)
-
It would be cool to ride what you rode in the teen years and maybe run a rec ride event bikes up to pre 2000 and see what numbers show and also what eras as well
